Incline Club V2 LR #4

Subject: Long Run #4 Reminder

Hi all,

I am happy to report that after I asked if anyone wanted to be removed from the list, only two people asked to be nuked. One is going in for hip surgery in January so we can excuse him and wish him luck.

We had a net gain however as we managed to add three new people to the list, albeit one of them is from New Zealand so I do not think they are going to make it to many of the runs... At any rate, there are now 33 people on the list which brings up the obvious question: Where is everyone come Sunday morning? Don’t tell me you get this e-mail just for the top lists!?

The winners of the best excuse contest...

3rd place to Tim Allison with :
I wanted Roger Allison to meet my dog.

2nd place to Donald J. Ross MD with:
Keep trying; I’m getting to the point where it will no longer be embarrassing to show up.

1st place and undisputed winner goes to Gary Hellenga with:
I won’t be there Sunday because I’ll be running the Tucson Marathon (even with the fever, cough, and chest cold I came down with yesterday). Excuses for future workouts I probably won’t make it to: I was ski racing (Dec. 14th, Jan. 25th, Feb. 8th, Mar. 8th), I was instructing Colorado Mountain Club winter mountaineering courses (Feb. 1st, Feb. 22nd, Mar. 1st), I was skiing/partying in Telluride (aka “getting in an early season training run for Imogene”)(Feb. 15th), I was ski touring in Yellowstone (Dec. 21st), I was showing a bunch of Canadians that Americans CAN drink real beer (Dec. 28th). So maybe I’ll see you on Jan. 4th and 11th!

As near as I can tell we should have close to 15 runners this week! There is more snow but at least we are back on the Barr Trail for most of the run. However and ironically, I find this to be the worst section because on the trip down there is so much ICE! Jason and Dan report that they have had past success with screws screwed into their shoes. I think 4 or so sheet metal screws inserted into the heels of your shoes could make a big difference. Because there is at least one lawyer among us, let me add this disclaimer: DO NOT USE SCREWS THAT ARE TOO LONG OR YOU MAY GET HURT!

Top 3 reasons why this list is not a top 10 list:
3) Extra time involved would interfere with my nap
2) I can’t think of anymore reasons
1) David Letterman gets more money for his lists so they SHOULD be longer...

Don’t forget to enter next week’s best excuse contest!

See you on Sunday...

WARNING! What follows is an obvious plug for the Skyrunner website...
One of the people who took me up on the offer to look over the FAQ was amazed to find that results and/or stories from all of our Incline runs and the new long runs are posted on the site... Yes, it is true, for those that did not know, the site is updated after every club workout...
WARNING OFF!
Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...

The tagline is a joke but if you pull it off I promise you will win every race you enter!
