Incline Club V2 LR #10

Subject: Long Run #10 Reminder

Howdy all,

Sunday @ 8 for the big loop. Depending on the ice on the way down, we my
take a right and head down to the water bridge to avoid the section from
there to No Name Creek where the worst of the ice was last week. It could be
a good one to put those screws back in your shoes...

Top 3 requests to make the Incline Club better.

3) “Matt you write too much...” Ouch, I am bleeding, where is the M*A*S*H
unit!
2) “Why not put the stuff on your site in the e-mail?” Sure and watch my
hits go from none to zero?
1) “...to see more stuff from more people...” Hey no fair, that was my idea
that I put up last week! Also this is just a politer version of #3 :-0

See you Sunday! BRING YOUR WATER!

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...

Matt

Another Top 3 things to do if you get lost on a Sunday run:
1) Stay there. We will be back next Sunday.
2) Fall. When you stop sliding/tumbling you should be pretty close to the
parking lot.
3) Go Downhill. This is a can’t miss.

Also he adds: The long runs I have been doing with the incline club these
last two months are giving me the “bug” to take my running back to a higher
level.

Ran with a friend yesterday and he told me about a new
race in the Mountain Runner Series that I thought
you might be interested in (in case you don’t know
about it already). It’s called 2 Big Boys. Starts
in Twin Lakes (9200) runs up to Mt Elbert (14433) down
to Halfmoon Rd (10???) up Massive (144??) down to
Turquoise Lake (9800). Sounds like a pretty cool
run. Might be September 27.

Ran up to the plane crash yesterday with the same
friend. Found all the stuff you did which was not
in the same spot as the X on the PP Atlas. Our theory
was that the plane clipped its wing/landing gear and
then proceeded onto the other side of that ridge (by the X). The
pieces of the plane other than the landing gear indicated a wing
(remember all those smooth, curved metal pieces — we think those were
the part of the wing flap that slides when the plane takes off or
lands). We were short on time so we didn’t pursue our theory, and
instead ran up to the top of the 9138 peak with the awesome view of
PS. We hope to go back on Saturday and hunt around for the rest of it.
I probably will even if he can’t. Great directions, BTW.

Sorry to have missed the run... and you wonder why you asked...
The top 10 reasons not to go on the Incline Group’s Sunday Run:
10. Too tired from the run last Sunday.
9. Can’t find the running shoes with the spikes drilled into them.
8. Set the alarm for 7...p.m.
7. Got engrossed in reading Larry Threlfall’s article on his run and
couldn’t break away.
6. Took a wrong turn and ended up at Waldo Canyon. Found Waldo, couldn’t
find the group.
5. Stopped at the Indian to fill up my water bottle and fell head first into
the pool.
4. Got caught by Manitou’s finest doing 45mph on Ruxton Ave.
3. Took a detour to the Manitou Bakery to carbo load and was too full from
the chocolate croissants to even think about running.
2. Got up early, then fell asleep on the couch watching ESPN Running and
Racing reruns.
1. Just not inclined to do it.

Thanks as always for the Long Run Reminder... just receiving it gets
me all excited about being there and engaged in such an Awesome (and FUN!)
adventure, again.

Thanks also for getting rid of the =20’s...this message is much easier to
read.

WWW post (note stars may or may not line up on your e-mail)

1/18/98 Yet another club record with 17 and 1/2 showing. Brent became the
newest Incline Club member by coming to his 4th workout. The Ute loop was
ICY today. It seems like every week we say that, but I just don’t remember
conditions like this. We were glad we were not coming down the Barr Trail to
No Name Creek — going up was enough to scare me. Brent also led the
fall-down club with five falls. I took two and Keith and Glen each took one.
No blood today to speak of but everyone got excited about a dead deer that
was next to the trail although Kevin A reports that he saw it when we did
the loop two weeks ago. Next week we are back on the COG loop but we may go
back down by the water bridge to avoid some of the bad ice from that point
to No Name Creek. CU there!

Misc. Stats

26 different people and 2 dogs have come to the Sunday Long runs.
35 different people have come to an Incline workout.
39 people are on the e-mail list.

It’s dark, I’m sore and tired.
Time goes slow. I count the blocks.
Too far apart or am I too slow?
I count the sidewalk cracks.
185, break your mamas back.
Lots of cracks lots of backs.
Why do I do this? It is not sane!
I cry and the tears freeze, its only 18 degrees.
No more cracks, I look for the stars.
One to the West but it is too low.
But the fire in my heart has come alive.
I become warm, things feel right.
7 more months and I will reach that light.
Now I know why and the pain is gone.
The man-made star of Mt. Zebulon.
