Sent: Friday, February 13, 1998 3:06 PM Subject: Long Run #13 Reminder Hello again it seems like only 7 days ago it was just last week! This Sunday, February 15, 8am, the Ute loop. Be there or be somewhere else... After last weeks mail-a-thon no one decided to submit anything kind of a bummer because I for one liked reading other peoples running stuff... Well, I did get two stories one from Larry T about a certain part of the human (male) anatomy getting froze (not his) and one from Paul about runners having to err, ahh, fertilize the ground however, this is a family mailing so if you want them, you will have to request them! In other news. Kevin I must win everything Ash became only the 5th person to solve my Cross Off Six Letters game. It amazes me just how many people write and say it is not possible. If you want to try it here is the URL: http://www.skyrunner.com/game/x6.htm Top 3 reasons no one wrote to the Incline Club, 3) Last week no one drew blood in a fall so there was no news 2) Still have not finished reading last post 1) Some of you have a life outside of running! C U Sunday! PS if anyone knows of somebody that lives in the Kissing Camel Estates above Garden of the Gods please contact me ASAP! I had a workout interrupted by the security dudes and they said dont come back unless I get permission. Go out hard, when it hurts speed up... Matt http://www.skyrunner.com ****************** WWW posts: (Note: since I just copied the text the links do not show. Visit the pages to follow the links) Incline Club Page: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline.htm 2/8/98 Off of an e-mail tip I found out that the two stories about the Incline published in the Gazette had been deleted. Fortunately, this was anticipated so I had saved them. Here is the feature story from the 12/10/1996 Gazette and here is the story from 7/17/97 Out There section of the Gazette. After reading these stories you might wonder just what the heck do you think your doing then by forming a group to run up the thing. For my 2 cents on the matter please refer to the 7/17/97 post in the Incline News. 2/8/98 15 and 1/2 came for a great run. We thought all the fresh snow over the week would make the going tough but it served to cover the ice and made it a lot safer. Larry T became the newest Incline Club member by coming to his 4th workout. He also brought Jannie todays newbie. A few falls today, but most of them were in the deep snow. I think with my two I may have picked up at least a tie for first in the fall-down club. After the last couple of weeks it was a true relief to have so many not fall! Pikes Peak Page: http://www.skyrunner.com/peak.htm 2/11/98 Chuck Wilt, a former Barr Camp caretaker, has put together some info on Barr Camp as well as a good collection of articles about Fred Barr, builder of both Barr Camp and, of course, the Barr Trail. Also be sure and check out the El Paso County Search and Rescue home page. They have all of their rescues for the last 3 years listed most of which take place on Pikes Peak. Be sure to check out the month of August for a view of the Ascent and Marathon from another perspective! 2/10/98 Ascent entries are at 567 of 1,800, Marathon entries are at 322 of 800. This is now only 12% ahead of last year. 2/5/98 I have learned that the TCR is working on one of the biggest complaints I hear about the Ascent wave start. Or more precisely, people getting into the first wave when they have no business being there. It turns out that many people pad their times some by more than 1 hour to get into the first wave. Frankly, I think these people should be DQd but the TCR is more generous and just puts the offenders back in the second wave where they belong! To do this the TCR checks predicted times with previous years results. Further, unless a first timer can provide appropriate justification they will also be put in the second wave. I think this is great because everyone gets hurt by the selfish act of padding so please dont do it it is cheating, plain and simple! ************** Pikes Peak Passes (let me know when you get one or when you know your #) Kevin # 1 Matt C # 2 Terrie # 3 Matt V # 4 Keith # 11 Larry T # 13 Cindy # 20 Glen # 24 Carol # ? ************** Misc. Stats 31 different people and 2 dogs have come to the Sunday long runs. 35 different people have run up the Incline as a club workout. 43 people are on the e-mailing list.
