Incline Club V2 LR #19

Subject: Long Run #19 Reminder

Hi all! The Ute loop is this Sunday at 8...

The news today is the front page news in the GT! $10 bucks a POP to go up
the Peak!!!! Now kindly send all that money you will save with your Peak
Passes my way;-) For those that have not read the story yet you can do so
here — but today only because they kill their archives —
http://www.gazette.com/daily/top1.html

On that note, read Gary’s post below for some new news on a new Peak Pass
option for families and/or groups. Also PLEASE if you are not listed with
the people who bought passes and have done so please let me know. AGAIN I
think as a group we can have some leverage for next year when they might not
have Peak Passes! They are open to locals and I have had a good relationship
with them in the past. Being able to show group support should boost our
“cause” when the time comes!

I have seen Rick H doing this and thought it was a great ideal! On your way
into Manitou for your Sunday long run there is a FREE recycle drop-off
across from the 7-11 and pancake house by the visitor center.

See you Sunday

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...

>From Gary Hellenga

I just called the Crystal Peak Visitors’ Center for my Peak Pass, and
the woman told me we can now buy a “Family Pass” for up to 5 people, for
$80. She said we could name any 5 people on the pass, so it seems like
an ideal way to have several Incline Club members get together to save
money for doing the Elk Park runs. The only restriction is that it is
only good for the 5 people named on the Pass — it can’t be used for just
any 5 people.

I don’t remember hearing about this option in previous news about Peak
Passes; if you’ve put it out before, then disregard this message. One
other thing the woman told me: Prices will probably go up soon, so it’s
a good idea to get one ASAP.

>From Larry Threlfall, (two weeks ago)

We had a GREAT run today. Carol and I pushed the group to right at 3 hours
(spread out between 3:00 and 3:20) total time. We wanted to show them
Water Pipe Bridge, the trail connecting Barr Trail, just above No Name
Creek, to the Bridge and the trail connecting the Bridge to the upper area
of Barr. Additionally, from the Water Pipe Bridge, we described the loop
on the COG. It was a great orientation for the newer people in our group.
Although none of them were actually newbies. Everyone had a great run and
enjoyed having other people to run with. There were no falls and no blood.
:-( Maybe next week. :-) A couple of people ran out of water but will
know to bring more, along with some cheese burgers, on future runs. The
gel and Power Bars just don’t cut it when your out for that long! Thanks
for the organization!

>From Larry Miller,

You well never believe but this today, 3-25-98, in Palmer Park I saw a nice
4 point ELK. Friday I’ll take my camera with me hopefully it’ll
still be in there.

Keep on Running

WWW posts (last two)

3/22/98 Again we had 17 and 1/2 runners with two newbies, Kelly and Charlie,
coming out to join the fun:-) We did an out and back up Barr Trail — which
is always well traveled — to avoid the new snow from the big storm. That is
“we” except for Larry who ran in the sickly deep stuff over to the water
pipe bridge and managed to ruin a pair of shoes in the process! Barr Camp
was a ghost camp. In the many years of winter running (or summer running for
that matter) on the Barr Trail this was the first time I had ever seen Barr
Camp locked up. The upper cabin was still open but the caretakers were out
for the day.

3/15/98 17 and 1/2 today — another big group especially when one considers
that 3 regulars were missing. The snow is starting to go but none of us are
being fooled by the change of weather — we know we have not see the last of
Mr. Winter. We have now had more people (38) join us for a Sunday long run
than we had join us for the Thursday Incline Club runs (35). Doug H and Jeff
P were the newbies today. I think as the weather gets bigger we should
really have some big groups but even now, all levels and abilities are
represented. Finally, it turns out that last week Kevin A did not have to do
another loop to find his dog Ajax because it ran down with some of the other
runners.
