Incline Club V2 TH #6 LR #26

Hi all,

First let me say thanks for the support on the new meeting place. The COG
people DO appreciate us not taking advantage of them and this has already
paid off in them allowing for up to 6 of us to use the COG tracks to run to
the top on Sunday mornings. I feel the fairest way to deal out the spots is
based on who has come to the most Sunday workouts. If a runner does not want
to go we will just go right down the list. Last time out of the 19 runners and
2 dogs only 4 wanted to go so hopefully most anyone will get to go on a
given weekend. I would (for the group) simply ask that no one take advantage
of this and try to break the rules and go on other days or add onto the 6 or
whatever. Several of us (Cindy, Dan, Terrie and myself) have a race in
June that goes up to 14,000’ so this access is VERY important to us.

On that note, hopefully we will not need the COG for too many more weeks and
we will get to run Elk Park again. This is the Peak Pass list I have. Again
please let me know if you are not on the list. Looks like the Incline Club
has about 25% of the passes so far;-)

Pins, Pins, Pins
Now that I have Thursdays and Sundays to track I may get behind on
announcing new club members. Laura got her pin last week (even though it was
her 6th run instead of #4) I know Jeff, Kelly E, Kent, Robert R, and Kim are
now members and I will try to remember your pin. If you have been to four
club workouts — let me know — you are now an official Incline Club member
and I owe you the club pin.

Questions, Questions, Questions
I have received several e-mail questions about the Thursday workouts along
the lines of: How hard do I do the easy minutes?, how far should I get
compared to xxx?, what should my time be at? Etc... I have added a new
section to the Incline Club FAQ http://www.skyrunner.com/faq.htm to deal
with just this type of stuff. Hopefully I have covered all the ?s sent to
me — if not let me know. Last night (Tuesday) I added three heartrate
graphs so you can get a feel for how I try to do the workouts. I refer to
the graphs in the text to further explain the concepts behind the 3 workouts
we do on Thursdays. As always if you find any mistakes they are your
fault — no really let me know.

Results, Results, Results
A lot of you have had races but no one has let me know how they did.
Congrats go out to Keith Grimes who got 3rd in a 50 Miler
at Chatfield Res and set a PR by 72 minutes with a 7:07:10 time. Also Jason
Hubbard ran two awesome times that got him ranked on the US Track lists in
the June 1998 Track and Field News. His 8:48 steeple got him 19th and his
13:53 5K got him 20th. This is a US rankings NOT college ranking so it is
indeed awesome! Bob Kennedy is #1 on the 5K list with a 13:15. Congrats go
to Kelly. I heard he ran 5 flats (25:00 for 5 miles) at the Cherry Creek
Sneak placing him 8th. Paul DeWitt ran 5:25 pace (1:24:09) for the Old Kent
River Bank Run which was the US Championships for the 25K distance.
He placed 19th American and 22nd overall.

Send me your race results and I will post it here.

Enough talk, on to the runs!!!

This Thursday the 14th is our second Incline run. I am working on the
handicaps. Also some of you/us are doing a 10K on Saturday so it
is suggested that you do NOT go all out! It takes several days to recover
from the Incline!

This Sunday the 17th Barr Camp and back. Also I need a volunteer from the
Sunday main group to pass on to me any tidbits that should be posted about
the group run as I am going to be in the 6 pack going to the top. Any
takers?

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...

>From Robert R (on 4/9/98)

Well, tonight was my first run with the group (actually behind the group)
and it was a lot of fun. I’ve never had my heart rate that high on the way
down! More proof that the club is full of animals.

(Robert got four minutes farther up the trail 3 weeks later on April
30th!!!)
