Sent: Wednesday, May 20, 1998 10:25 PM Subject: Incline V2 TH #7 LR #27 Today, Thursday the 21st is our 3rd tempo run from Hydro Street to No Name Creek or 30 minutes whichever comes first. Sunday, the 24th is the Ute loop. ************* Because I am just dying for e-mail no just kidding could ALL of you send me your 3-5 favorite trails to run in the area? Please list them in order and if you type fast please feel free to keep listing more;-) This should not take to much time and it goes along with a letter from below. Dont worry if your picks are or are not already on the list I want your favorites! Thanks and I look forward to 59 e-mails:-) Jeff, Kent, Linda and Nancy have earned Incline Club pins now only 6 pins are left! Thanks to those who sent replies about the leg warmers they must have walked off... Matt H. let me know that it was Larry H. who was there last week and not our 4th club Larry. The Pikes Peak Marathon should be full by the 26th time is running out! Jay, who lives in Parker, wants to know if any of you come from that direction (Carol?) for the Sunday runs see the note below. Go out hard, when it hurts speed up... Matt Carpenter http://www.skyrunner.com ************* >From Robert and Linda Ronas We figured we would send you an update from our view at the back of the pack (butts, butts and more butts). The snow and ice werent too bad. A ways after No Name, there were a few spots in the shade where some snow/ice covered about half the width of the trail. When you got past the longest half mile marker in the world, you hit a few more spots with some ice. Also, some of the trail was serving as a drainage way and was quite muddy. Overall though, not too bad. At Barr Camp, several people (Lon, Roger, Carla, Cate?, Linda and myself) waited for the pump to get fixed. After about ten minutes, we decide to fill our water bottles with some clean snow and get under way. When we got back down to the bottom, it was blazing (Slurpee weather). The warm day made for some nice temperatures at Barr Camp but it was steaming back down by the Cog. So thats about it from the turtle patrol, nothing too exciting. *************** >From Jay Engel (e-mail address removed for www posting) I ran with the Sunday morning incline club yesterday - great bunch of runners. This was my 2nd time on the mtn. Made it 20 minutes past Barr Camp this time. My plan is to add on 20 minutes each week until I reach the summit how hard can that be??? Enjoyed the downhill as long as I can avoid the trees ouch! Planning on the Aug marathon. See you next week... BTW, nice stats on the weekly runs! The snow past Barr Camp was patchy that is patches of dirt with mostly uneven snow covered terrain. Im planning to go up 40 minutes past this Sunday. I live near Parker and wonder if you know of someone in the Sunday group who drives down from Denver. ************* This one is not from a club member but I thought I would pass it on... They are making a list of the best mountain running trails in the Springs area. Perhaps you out there know of some that got left out. Please let me know and I will pass it on. I kind of pushed #1 just because I like our loop and it has some great views of the Springs if you happen to look over during the two steepest sections;-) I also told them about #2, #3 and #5. They are looking for runs that capture the essence of Colorado Springs. They already have the Barr Trail, and Garden of the Gods on their best list this is just a list of the ones they have not run yet. Now if only I could do that much running in one weekend! Matt, Thanks for the great input. It always helps to get input from the locals. It looks like Monique and I will be running the following this coming weekend: 1. Ute Indian Trail 2. Waldo Canyon 3. Jones Park 4. Falcon Trail 5. Section 16 6. Rampart Reservoir (if we have the time) Thanks again. -Phil
