Boy that week went fast! As I write it is raining big time — I love it!
Been too long.

Tomorrow/Thursday/the 2nd is the 30 minute tempo run from Hydro Street up
Barr Trail — meet by the fountain.

Sunday the 5th is our 2nd run from Elk Park — meet at 7am at the toll
booth. Sounds like everyone had some good runs last Sunday on Elk Park — I
can’t wait because it is one of my favorites. To be perfectly honest I do
not know what day the car race is — I assume the 4th but if for some reason
it is Sunday I do not want to wait for it so will just run from the bottom.

Paul DeWitt reports:

He read that the car race is a great way to see up close an ecosystem get
destroyed!

Keath Grimes reports:

I was back in Ohio and ran the Mohican Trail 100. My goal was to break
24 hours, since I have never completed a 100 Miler. I ended up doing a
20:39:05 and placing 7th out of 77. I was very pleased with my time and
should be in good shape heading into Leadville this August.

Tim Allison reports:

Kevin A, Matt V, and myself all ran in the Sailin’ Shoes 10K. I think Matt
came in 5th, Kevin did about 38’, and I was at 38’ 15s. I finished an
interesting experiment. In the Bolder Boulder I ran with orthotics, but not
all out because of my hamstrings, and finished in 38’ 02s. Average Heart
Rate was probably just under 160. In the Sailing Shoes 10K I went all out,
but no orthotics, and finished with a worse time. Average Heart Rate was
170. (I also got in Kevin A’s way. I’ll have to talk to him.) Just goes to
show that running efficiency is more important (to me) than the weight of my
shoes. (My orthotics are roughly half as heavy as my shoes.)

And because I’m from near Amish country:

You know the drill but here it is again:

If you do not have your Peak Pass give them a call at
(719) 684-2644. As always do not forget to mention “Friends of the Peak” so
they can get a $5 donation to help with trail maintenance etc. This is the
Peak Pass list I have. Again please let me know if you are not on the list.
