Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 1998 3:53 PM Subject: Incline V2 TH #15 LR #35 Tomorrow, Thursday the 16th, is the INCLINE:-) Meet at the base of the Incline at 5:30pm. Sunday, the 19th is Elk Park. Meet at the toll booth at 7am. *********** Thanks again to Robert R and Rick H for filling me in on who showed last Thursday and Sunday the club www page has been updated. The 16 and 1/2 who showed for Elk Park was our biggest group up there so far I cant wait to be there this Sunday. *********** Lots of people liked the T-shirt ideal for the club. No one wanted new pins. Several suggested the elevation profile that is on the Incline Club FAQ. It is kinda neat but I think we would then have a shirt that looks similar to the Pikes Peak shirts that always have the peak profile on the back. Rick H suggested a cartoon type drawing of the Incline with a runner on it. Most want some type of slogan. About 6 people thought we should put the Go out hard, when it hurts speed up on the shirt somewhere. Please send some more slogans and then we can take a vote next week. ********** Matt V writes: RE: Tim Allisons comment on the Sailing Shoes 10k: Actually Paul DeWitt was 2nd, I was 3rd with a 33:39 PR for that course, Nate Kemp (who has been running with the incline club lately) was 6th. Ken Romero who ran a couple of times with us last year was 8th. Kevin was 27th and Tim was 30th. Not a bad showing. If the race had been scored cross country style the Incline Club would have been tough to beat. This weekend I took first place overall at the Firecracker 5k in Briargate which was billed as a trail run. The wind and hills made the times slow for the 300+ people that ran. I dont remember seeing any other incline folks there. ********* Tim Allison writes: Since I am going to Yellowstone for the next two Thursdays, I ran the Incline this morning. I did it in 27:02, which was pretty disappointing since I started well. There was some women taking her roughly 1 year old daughter up the incline by hand, not in a pack. Perhaps a Darwin Award winner. There was also a Mennonite family, in full regalia, scrambling up. They were doing pretty well, especially given their clothing. Farming the old fashioned way makes for tough people. Ive heard guys talk of Amish farmers who could extend a sledge hammer at arms length, and then raise it up and touch their nose! Thoughts for shirt slogan: Over the Top Pueblo State Hospital North (okay, only locals might get that one.) Memberships dont expire. Members do. ********* See you tomorrow! Go out hard, when it hurts speed up... Matt Carpenter http://www.skyrunner.com
