Tomorrow, Thursday the 6th, *may* be the Incline run. Just because we are so
close to Pikes the workout *may* get switched to a tempo run to No Name or
Barr Camp. Meet at the base of the Incline at 5:30 either way.

Sunday, the 9th is the Elk Park run. Run by how you feel!!! By now you
should know what this run does to you. I find that it is just a lung burner
so I recover very fast from it. You may find that it has been leaving you
tired for a few days. If so run it easy or skip it! You may find that if you
run relaxed you might end up running almost as fast or faster than when you
tried to go all out — this is a good sign that you are ready to go!!!

Several of you have asked about tapering for the Peak. Some of us plan on
staying a few nights up at Barr Camp over the weekend. My plan is to do lots
of longer slower stuff above 10,000’ over the weekend with maybe one or two
shorter tempo runs on various sections of the course. Mostly just looking
for the time spent in altitude. Monday will be normal. Tuesday will be half
my normal speed workout at the same speed. Wednesday I will half my normal
day. Thursday and/or Friday I will do 1/4 my normal day and also do the
start of the race through the 1st switch-back just to get my starting pace
down. Of course if you are running Saturday you would want to do that
Thursday not Friday:-) Saturday will be 1/4 my normal run with 4 or so 30-40
second pickups. All and all that works out to 5 easy days for me. You may
want more or less. What is important is that there is not a lot to be gained
in the final week but much to be lost! Avoid “testing” yourself at all next
week. The pace check on Thursday or Friday is not a test. 7-15 minutes at
Ascent pace two days out should feel very easy!!! If not, how do you plan to
go another 2-6 hours?

I think working at pace for the start of the race is real important. Get
some splits very early (like a 1 minute split) into your run so you can
check your pace during the race before it is too late. Don’t forget to play
around with the pace calculator on my site for some split times. Most people
find it works very well for them. It has a split for Ruxton and Hydro street
to shoot for in your Thursday or Friday pace check.

Also last week I added a new split for the sign that is half way between No
Name and Barr Camp. Remember it only works for IE 3+ users. NS users can
guess their splits based on the pace chart that is also on the page.

It is time that we narrow the list of slogans! This vote will leave us with
the 5 most popular slogans. Please vote here:
http://www.skyrunner.com/vote.htm. This page also contains some new artwork
but we are not voting on that yet. Next week will be the final vote for
everything so use the art and logos to get ideals to send in your own
submissions.
