Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 1999 3:04 PM Subject: Incline Club V3 LR #7 Ok, I have heard some complaining about the cold. I have heard some complaining about the ice. I have heard some complaining about the hills. I have even heard some complaining about the distance. Sooooooo I thought I would share the story of an inspirational man with you: He walked barefoot everywhere to the point that his feet became quite thick and hard. Because he did not eat much and often went on hunger strikes, he became quite thin and frail. Yet despite many hardships he remained a very spiritual person. In fact about the only bad thing ever written about him was that he was known to have bad breath. Of course I am talking about Ghandi. The great man who became known as a super-callused fragile mystic plagued with halitosis. ***** OK get ready to push the envelope a bit:-) This Sunday, January 10th 8 a.m. meet by the Incline Head out the Ute Indian Trail and then do the Waldo loop. However this time we will NOT head straight back but instead we will continue UP Longs Ranch Road until we meet up with the Barr Trail at No Name Creek. Run down the Barr Trail back to the parking area. 2:30 to 3:30 depending on speed. I can only imagine that Longs Ranch Road will be quite fun after running Waldo:-O Over the last 3 days the ice has become very bad at No Name Creek. (For you newbies, that is what most people call French Creek but in fact we go no where near French Creek on these runs) My advice is to go around it!!! It is getting ugly and even walking it could take you out. Also the only other BIG spot we need to worry about at this time is the one halfway out the Ute Indian Trail. But as always, watch yourself on ALL the downhills!!! If you fall dont forget to brag and show the rest of us your blood:-) ***** Remember we meet for breakfast after the run!!! We broke the Club record Sunday when 15 people showed and stuffed themselves:-P ***** Monday when I ran to Barr Camp I noticed some running clothes by the trail near the Incline turn-off. I did not disturb them thinking that someone had put them there when they got hot. Today when I ran to Barr Camp they were still there so I brought them home. If any of you left or dropped clothes on the trail or know of someone who did just let me know what I found and they are yours again:-) ***** Garry H writes: Heres some info from the Colorado Mountain Club home page about a couple of Joe Simpson events coming up later this week. Matt Carpenter http://www.skyrunner.com Disclaimer: I got the Ghandi joke via e-mail. I liked it but am not claiming I wrote it. Further I do not know who wrote it. Lastly and even more amazing is that I have not heard anyone complaining about any of the sick conditions we have had to put up with during our runs I just needed an intro to the Ghandi joke:-) WWW post: 1/3/99 24 people and 5 dogs came to the first Incline Club workout of the new year. A cold was in the air but so too was a neat fog that closed in around us on our way back down from Barr Camp. The Camp stove was putting off the heat and the cabin was warm the perfect gathering spot to let some of the frost melt off of our frozen faces. The trail was in great shape with the only icy spot being just below No Name Creek. After the run a club PR of 15 met for breakfast. Club records: # of dogs on a run: 6 # of people to show for breakfast: 15 # of people on the Incline: 21 # of runs in a row Glen Ash: 24 # of people on a Thursday: 27 # of people at a party: 30 # of people on a Sunday: 35 # of members in a race Pikes Peak A & M: 44 # on e-mailing list: 90 Incline Club Page: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline.htm Incline Club FAQ: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline_faq.htm This e-mail: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline_mail.htm
