IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t forget to set your clocks one hour ahead Saturday
night! Did you know that there are 8% more traffic accidents on the Monday
after the time switch? http://www.standardtime.com/.

****
This Sunday, April 4th 8 a.m. (7:00a.m. for those that forget to adjust your
clocks) meet by the Incline:
Go out the Ute Indian Trail and at the “T” take a right down the service
road. Look both ways and cross Hwy 24 and then run the Waldo Canyon loop
clockwise. Look both ways and cross back over the highway and head up Longs
Ranch Road until you meet up with the Barr Trail at No Name Creek. Then head
UP the Barr Trail for about 100 meters and turn left and head out to the
water pipe bridge. Do not cross the bridge but head UP the road until it
turns into a narrow trail. This will connect back into the Barr Trail. Run
down the Barr Trail back to the parking area. 3 to 4 hours depending on
speed.

****
There is a group who will be doing this loop at 6:30a.m. due to Easter. This
will count as a club run. Someone in the group please let me know who shows
so you can get your “*”s. I will still be sleeping — that would be
5:30a.m. if it were not for the time switch.

****
Speaking of time switch that also means it is time to start the Thursday
Club runs at 5:30p.m. The first one will be next Thursday the 8th watch for
details next week.

Another thing that comes in April is the opening of the COG. They start
running trains on the 16th. This is advance notice that on Sunday the 11th
we will have a “Practice Park.” Which means do NOT park in the COG parking
area. We will start the Sunday before they open so that we can get the word
out to the people who do not get this e-mail or for those that get the
e-mail and never read it. The new meeting place for club runs starting
Sunday the 11th will be by the Fountain on Spring Street.

Matt V writes:
I happened to be in San Diego last week for work, so at the end of the week
I entered a 5k race (Carlsbad 5000). They run 6 different races all based
on age groupings and claim to have 15,000 runners. Although I didn’t know
it until the race started, Kelley Mortensen was running there as well. He
took Second place in the Men’s Under 30 race with a time of 14:45. It was
a pretty close finish, which made for some excitement among the crowds. But
the thing that really put the crowd on pin’s and needles was that an Amtrak
train track crosses the course a couple hundred yards before the finish
line. A train came through going 60mph just before Kelley and the guy he was
racing for first place were preparing to enter the home stretch. The train
cleared the tracks just as the pace car reached the crossing. If the
Kelley’s pace had been 7 to 10 seconds per mile faster, he would have been
flattened. I ended up running a 15:48 which was good enough for 21st
overall in my race.

Rick H and Matt C are 3/4 of the way to getting Glenn A’s club long run
streak record of 24. Cisco has the K9 record locked up.

3/28/99 Two club records went down today when 39 people and 7 dogs met for
the Sunday long run. Spring was in the air and shorts were the order of the
day. The Barr Trail had just a couple of small snow patches left getting to
Barr Camp. Even Elk Park trail was not too bad out to the clearing but after
that it was a different game for the 7 of us who ventured out to the Severy
Trail intersection. I know I for one wished I had tights because the crusty
snow drew some blood from my shins. Coming back went faster thanks to the
fear of freezing toes!!! Once back on the dirt however it was great to
cruise down the Barr Trail without having to worry about slipping and
breaking our necks. Heads up for the time change next Sunday - we will still
meet at 8 a.m. but don’t forget to set your clocks an hour ahead!
