Subject: Incline Club V3 TH #1 LR #20

Thursday, April 8th 5:30 p.m. meet by the Incline
The Incline!!! The first Thursday run of the season. Mass start to establish
handicaps.

I am sure there will be lots of ?s about the Thursday runs. I have updated
the Incline Club FAQ http://www.skyrunner.com/incline_faq.htm to reflect
what we will be doing this year. It is different from last year in that we
will be repeating the cycle every 4 weeks. The main reason for this is so
that we alternate tempo runs with non-tempo runs. I feel this will be better
and more balanced training than having two tempo runs in a row like last
year when we cycled only the three workouts.

At any rate feel free to ask questions AFTER you read the FAQ.

Sunday, April 11th 8 a.m. meet by the Fountain on Spring Street. Spring
Street is 1/4 mile down the road from the COG depot.

THIS IS OUR PRACTICE PARK!!!! NO PARKING IN COG SPOTS!!! If it gets too
crowded by Spring Street park in the Barr Trail trail-head spots and run
down to Spring Street as your warm-up (down?).

Run up to Barr Camp and then over to the Severy Creek Trail intersection on
Elk Park Trail and back then head back down. 3:00 to 4:00 depending on
speed.

****
Please look over the workout board to see if I got you listed for last
Sunday. Some went early because of Easter, some came late because of the
switch to daylight savings time.

****
Speaking of workout board: It is THE workout board this year unlike last
year when we had a Thursday board and a Sunday board. One board should make
things a lot easier. It got rather ugly last year trying to keep things
straight on the two boards. Not to worry — we will still have an Incline
board with times for Incline runs posted.

I have been going to sit down all week and fill you in on
my adventure last Sunday — and here it is Friday!

All went well on the run to the turn around point at the Severy cairn.
It was cold and I was glad to get back into the sunshine on Barr trail.
I decided that because my legs were a bit tired from the snow that it
would be smart to run down a little slower and more careful than I
normally do. Just after the few rocky turns below Barr Camp, on a nice
flat, rockless area, I caught my toe on something and went straight
down, do not pass go, do not collect $200, do not have time to think! I
hit square on my left knee and knew it was a bad blow. I could see bone
in the hole in it, and quit looking at that point! Needless to say, it
was a long trip down. Once it was no longer numb, I decided to walk
down, then it let me run stiff legged a bit, and after 1.5 hours, I
arrived in the parking lot, white sock red, leg covered with blood,
other leg well spattered, tired, and very glad to be down! Ask Rick H
and Neal the score for bloodiness and swollen funkiness! There were a
lot of people hiking up who were concerned and a couple of girls could
not hide their disgust! I thought they were going to get sick! The
good news is it’s not broken, only severely bruised, and they put 3
stitches in it. The bad part was the scrubbing out and numbing up! The
best words to hear were no breaks! So, I’ll be back as soon as
possible! I hate to miss the runs — even though I might not be the
fastest one out there, I feel very strong and ahead of schedule on my
training. Warn everyone to watch out for those little gnomes that live
on the trail and pull on your toes when you least expect it!

(Note: Only because she said to ask I checked with Rick H. He reports that
when they cleaned it they shot water in one hole and it came out another!!!
However to show just how sick she is Teresa was back at it the following
Sunday!!!)

4/4/99 A lot of new snow, the switch to Daylight Savings Time and Easter
Sunday all combined to keep the group under 30 for the first time in 8 weeks
when 22 people and 2 dogs did the Waldo loop. Only a few dared venture up
Longs Ranch Road into the deep stuff. All and all however it was a great run
and the snow made it kind of fun.

Club records:
# of dogs on a run: 7
