Special request from Friends of the Peak:

This Saturday, May 8th, at 8 a.m. the Friends of the Peak are doing Barr
Trail re-vegetation on the first couple of miles from the trail-head. I have
been asked to recruit “water runners” for the project. If you could come out
and run up gallon jugs of water to the volunteers doing the planting it
would be a big help. Despite all the rain we have had the stuff they plant
will die without being watered at the time of the planting.

This will be a fun time and 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 etc. water trips can get your
mileage done for the day. Please consider this an Incline Club event and a
“V” for volunteer will be given on the long run board. Out of fairness
however it will not count in the rankings as I do not want you to feel like
you have to do this. But you will be a really good person and you will sleep
very well at night knowing that you helped.

On that note for those that do not know about the Friends of the Peak they
are the people who do most of the work on the Barr Trail. You can support
the organization by becoming a member for only $10 per year. The most
immediate benefit to you is that you will then get $5 off your Peak Pass
which will need to be renewed soon anyway as we get ready to go sledding, I
mean running, on the top part of the mountain hopefully by June.

Hint Hint: consider becoming a member of FOTP. You can sign up here:
http://www.skyrunner.com/fotp.htm. Look for membership information. Also you will
see a list of season projects that go into more detail about all the FOTP
projects in addition to the one this Saturday.

Disclaimer: I build and host their www pages as a donation, otherwise I am
not affiliated with nor do I receive anything form FOTP. Well, actually I do
get better trails on the Peak so I guess I do get something but not because
I host their pages. I am sure you get what I am trying to say here. I just
think that this is a great organization that directly effects our enjoyment
of the peak.

Winds and back to add some time.

WWW Post:
5/2/99 29 people and 4 dogs ran in the deep stuff today. Many of us took a
very long and steeeeep route to the upper trail of Waldo Canyon. Once we got
to the trail it was not a whole lot better and made for some slow going. The
stream crossings were more like river crossings and more than a few did the
big splash. Despite all this it was rather fun to go out and play around in
the first real snow of the year.

4/29/99 Only 11 people braved the rain today. It has been non-stop for about
20 hours now — the creeks look like rivers. We did a slightly different
protocol today for the 30 minutes of 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy. During
the easy minutes we ran part way back down so we would never get up to where
the snow starts. This made for a much tougher workout because we would start
each one with more people. Despite the rain we also still did the 5 Hydro
Street hill repeats.
