Incline Club V4 LR #1

Hello again and welcome to you newbies. It is that time of year again! This
Sunday, the 28th, at 8 a.m. we will once again start out our new season with
the Waldo Loop run via the Ute Indian Trail. Last year our first run had 25
runners and 3 dogs. It would be great to have that many again!

We will meet in the parking lot next to the Incline. The COG is closed so
like every winter we should have no problem parking in those spaces. This is
not a Thursday handicap run so we all start at the same time. Again the run
starts at 8 a.m. so be warmed up and ready to go. None of us likes to be
cold so if you are late have fun catching up because we will not wait!!!

For those that thought the off season meant NO running feel free to do an
out and back on the Ute Indian Trail. However, no matter your fitness level
come on out!!! I keep hearing the same old line from newbies and oldbies
alike: “I will wait a couple of weeks and get in shape and then join you.”
Just ask those that know — this does not work. The group gets in shape
faster than the individual so it will only get worse! Come out now because a
lot of improvement is made in the first couple of runs! Also don’t worry if
you have to start with some walking — its a tough course.

For more details on where we meet, how to get there, etc. please see the
Incline Club FAQ www.skyrunner.com/incline_faq.htm If you still have
questions feel free to e-mail me.

I hate to admit it but I caught myself complaining the other day when it
snowed — like, hello it is almost December and it can’t be 60 degrees
everyday! This no daylight stuff is also starting to get a bit old already.
However, thanks to an e-mail from Tim A I was able to discover that the days
are only going to get about 3 minutes shorter:-) Check out

a whole year at a time.

Hi! We’d like to invite you all to come do the Mt. Taylor Winter
Quadrathlon with us Feb. 19th in Grants, NM. For those of you not
familiar with this race, check it out at http://www.grants.org, the
town’s Web site. This is a fun race, and we’d like to get a whole group
together to go do it. There are also options for sightseeing in the
local area (e.g., Acoma Pueblo ["Sky City"], a mesa-top pueblo that is
supposedly the oldest continuously-inhabited community in North
America). Please let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll handle the
logistics (carpooling, lodging, etc.).

I finished both Pikes Peak footraces in 1999. I wore my Ascent shirt during
the Marathon and was amazed at how many runners commented (as they passed me
- ha!) saying it is totally awesome doing both races.

Out of curiosity, I approached the Triple Crown of Running (TCR) in pursuit
of some type of special recognition for runners who enter {and finish} both
Pikes Peak races (the same year).

TCR’s Dave Zehrer is looking into my request. We’ve discussed different
ideas on two occasions. Dave wants ideas and suggestions from the folks who
run both races so the TCR can come up with some type of recognition in a
professional manner.

We discussed having the “double header” folks mentioned in the awards
ceremony, and maybe having a separate shirt (or hat or medal, etc) for those
runners, hopefully with something cool printed on it- (like “one wasn’t
enough,” or “the double whammy,” etc).

I also thought of this one, which won’t fly:
Day 1 = Ascent; Day 2 = Marathon; Day 3 = Mental hospital.

I asked Dave Z. if it’s ok with him (and the TCR) to get in touch with you
for suggestions about this, and for your resource of many runners (he said
sure).

If you would, please send this to your .dis list of Incline Club folks for
suggestions or volunteers.

...who knows, this might spark some interest in more folks to run both
races.

Thanks for helping.
