And just like that we are in another month:-)

This Sunday, February 6, 8 a.m. meet in the COG parking lot.
Up to Barr Camp and out Elk Park to clearing and back. 3-3.5 hours. Newbies
turn back at Barr Camp. If the snow is still deep on Elk Park we won’t go
there but instead we will head down Longs Ranch Road and back via the Ute
Indian Trail to add on some time. That group we saw a couple of weeks ago
said it was a great run.

That run/walk yesterday was really tough — I can’t remember anything out
here, including the “Golden Stairsteps” that was as tough. It was like
running on sand, uphill, for 2 hours. Everything was sore yesterday PM. I’m
glad that all I had to do was watch the Super Bowl.

I don’t know how anyone else is feeling today, but I think I’m sorer than
any run thus far! Getting knocked about in the snow for 2-1/2 hours was a
new experience. I’m reminded that, even after separate incidents of puking,
falls that left my hands and knees looking like hamburger, cramps,
hypothermia, dehydration, it is definitely a mistake to ever take that
environment for granted. This is a mental mistake I think I made yesterday:
“I’m ‘just’ going to do Long’s Ranch Road today.” I mentally fill in the
blank, “I’ll be kicked back watching the Super Bowl in no time, no sweat.”
It didn’t seem like that was the kind of run I had. Barr Camp should be
interesting next week. This is cool.

Take heart! When the snow melts the same runs will feel like child’s play
and you will no longer think the Barr Trail is so steep!

Just a reminder for those of you that did make the December 12th run when
the announcement was made, Yvonne and I will be tying the knot during the
club run on February 20th. We will be running to the ceremony which club
member Bob McAndrews will be performing on the first little overlook in
Waldo Canyon. Put this run on your calendars and join us as we embark on our
really long run:-)

I wrote a couple of notes to people letting them know where they stood on
the workout board and one person wrote back asking “what workout board?” On
the Incline Club page www.skyrunner.com/incline.htm all club workouts are
tracked and the runners doing them are ranked by the # of workouts they
attend. The board is used to see who gets club awards at the end of the
year. Last year anyone coming to 25 or more workouts got a club award! Top 5
on the workout board get bigger awards. There are usually 4-5 “special”
awards given out as well;-)

Also just to clear up some things on the “*”s on the workout board. Often
people do not do the whole run — they get a “*.” Sometimes those that are
hurt or running a race the next day come out and “run” for just a few
minutes — they get a “*.” Sometimes people start a little early or a little
late — they get a “*.” Bottom line, the “*”s are mostly for getting our
butts out the door!!! The only “rule” is that to get a “*” someone doing the
“normal” club workout has to see you out there.

WWW post: 1/30/2000 36 people and 7 dogs (which ties the club K9 record)
took off out Ute Indian Trail with the thermometer reading 8 degrees. New
deep snow made for a cold and slow run up Longs Ranch Road. I know my toes
were saved only by a change of socks near the top. I am blown away at how
many people bagged this loop with some saying it was not even that hard!???
The oldbies were commenting that days like today used to only get 4-5
runners - the Incline Club is sick, sick I tell you sick!

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...
