How do you spell fast? St Patrick’s Day 5K!!!! In the year to year
improvement category we have:

Joe Cowell took off 3:12
Brenda Cowell took off 1:09
Jack Ramsey took off 1:03 to get 2nd in the 55-59 age-group
Scott Gall took off 1:01 to win the race
Dan Vega took of 1 minute flat and is the first time he broke 16 in the
Springs!!!
Paul Sullivan took off 55 seconds
Cindy O’Neill took off 52 seconds and defended her title
Todd Burges took off 31 seconds
Don Ross took off 20 seconds and once again won the 55-59 age-group

I am practically excited about Joe and Dan!!! These two have run every day
this calendar year! Brenda C has also been doing way more and although Glen
Ash did not have a year to year to compare to, he won the 60-98 age-group by
over 20 minutes. All 4 of these people are in the top 10 on the workout
board — some crazy theory that if you run a lot, you get better!

Here is a list of people that I could find from the mailing list. Some run
with us all the time, others in the past. Sorry if I missed you but we are
at 200 for the list. Also I have to admit I only know some of you by your
last initial so please send in your results and I will add them next week.

ROCK ON INCLINE CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
####

This Sunday, March 19, 8 a.m. meet in the COG parking lot.
Run out the Ute Indian Trail and then cross Hwy 24 and do the Waldo Canyon
lollipop loop clockwise. Cross back over Hwy 24 (be careful) and head up
Longs Ranch which connects back into the Barr Trail at No Name Creek. Run
down the Barr Trail to finish the loop. 2.5-3.5 hours. Newbies skip Waldo
and head up Longs Ranch Road.

Watch for snow:-)

I was waiting for the day to run Barr Trail in the snow... I found it hard
to run because I wanted to stop and just take in the view. It was worth the
wait.

It was another wonderful and unique Incline run this past Sunday, made extra
special by the light to moderate snow that fell for most of the morning.
Some of us, wanting to make the moment last,(%#&$*@) chose to come back down
via Long Ranch Road after the trip to Barr. It was magic! Unfortunately,
Laura L could not be there to share it with me/us due to a prior commitment
(I think she was out shopping for bird seed — yikes!). I still have the
“Pikes Peak” glove (left hand) found a week ago on the Waldo loop as no one
has yet claimed it. I thought I had the owner spotted when, while running
up Barr trail between French Creek and the Camp, a dude approaches me going
in the other direction doing this funky moon-walk down the trail (no, it
wasn’t Neal T, at least not this time), wearing a gray fedora, sunglasses,
one black leather Pikes Peak glove (right hand), and had no shirt on (no, it
wasn’t Anthony S). Before I could ask him about the glove, he starts
bubbling in this soft, smooth voice about the “thriller” run he had coming
down from Barr Camp because of all the ice and snow. I realized that the
glove we had found and the glove he was wearing didn’t really match, but I
thought I’d ask him anyway if he had lost one. He told me “no, I just keep
mah other han wawm by stickin it down my pansssss....” Hmmm. I told him
that probably wasn’t such a good idea since I knew one of our newest incline
members is a sex offender probation officer. When I began urging him to
just take the glove and use it anyway, he told me to “beat it!,” and
continued down the trail mumbling or singing something like “...the chair is
not my son.” He had the initials M.J. embroidered on his “pansssss"; Mejia
Jackson maybe? Bizarre. And people think the Incline members are strange.

Paul S writes:
Can you relate to Laura L and Tom K that the PPM white glove is mine, and
thank you. That’s my favorite pair.

####
Laura L writes:
I missed all you guys Sunday. I had to play bells in church. I heard it
was a beautiful run with the snow. Wish I could have been there physically,
but I was there in spirit.
####

Paul S writes (again):
Yo Tom K!
The only goo that glove has been in contact with is of the sports
variety!! The glove is mine!!! (“the dang gone glove is mine.” — MJ) I
thought I’d lost it for good. I’ll trade you a Gu gel (banana flavor) for
it as a reward. There are good people in this world.
####

Tom K writes (again):
Hey Paul. Glad our rescue effort, and subsequent attempts to locate the
family of the orphaned glove (television spots, adds in the New York Times,
thrifty nickel, vocal protocol (“WHO’s GLOVE IS THIS”), etc.) finally paid
off. Laura plans to wash it (dirt, no GU) at the Willamette address where
it is presently resting comfortably after a hot meal (unless the cats got
it, in which case it might have become a meal), and drop it by your place
sometime later this week. See ya! tk

Dave from Jamestown, CO writes:
You can just call me jealous. You folks in the incline club seem to have it
pretty good as far as community goes. I’m relatively new to the Boulder
mountain area(Jamestown) and am always searching for skinny trail penguins
like myself. Any leads on trail running groups who are welcoming of
newbies?

(I contacted a few people for Dave but if you know anyone in the area please
let me know and I will pass it on)

Joe M from Ohio writes:
Add me to your mail list. I enjoy reading about the Peak. Brian has
started a running club at college. He was inspired by the Incline Club.

####
Anyone at MCI know Jonathan Cavner? I took him off the list for 3 bounced
mails in a row. It could be that he did not switch from MCI.COM to WCOM.COM
but I would like to know if he is still there or not.

####
WWW Post:
3/12/2000 37 people and 5 dogs got snowed on today although most thought it
was kind of nice. Several came back from the run looking more like
snowpeople than people. The ice factor was lower but one still has to be
careful! Afterward Yvonne C treated us to some sugar treats that had some
ready for a second run.

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...
