Subject: Incline Club V4 TH #1 LR #20

Did you see that? Last night at 7:30ish there was still more than enough
light to be out running:-) We all know what that means: THURSDAYS are
back!!! We have been working for 19 weeks building an awesome base. A great
foundation that should have left us super fit. Judging by how some of you
have been finishing the long runs I would say we are very fit indeed! But
fit is not fast and we want to be fast so now it is time move onto the
quality phase or our schedule.

Because we are so fit we have lowered our chances of getting hurt during the
Thursday workouts. Also because they are up gradual hills (except the once a
month Incline which is, shall we say, not so gradual) we again lesson our
chances of getting hurt! And while the Incline will not make us fast it will
make us strong:-) Remember even those that run in the flats almost always do
some hills for strength. Because we run in the hills we need something
really crazy to make us strong. Hence the Incline. However the main goal is
to get fast and that is why 3 out of every 4 Thursdays will be on a gradual
hill like Barr Trail. To get fast on uphills we must run fast on uphills and
that is the essence of Thursdays!

For those that have not seen the “hows and whys” of our Thursday workouts
they are explained in much more detail at http://www.skyrunner.com/incline_faq.htm

####
Thursday, April 6, 5:30 p.m. meet at the COG parking lot.
Club weather guru Tony E says “were are a go for the Incline!”
Mass start on the big boy to establish handicaps. Run down the Barr Trail.
4-6 Hydro Street hill repeats.
NOTE 1: This is the LAST time this year we will be parking at the COG
parking lot!

Sunday, April 9, 8 a.m. meet at Soda Springs Park.
Up to Barr Camp then on the way down go up and back down Longs Ranch Road
and back via the Ute Indian Trail. 2.5-3.5 hours.
NOTE 1: This is the FIRST time we will be using Soda Springs Park. I think
this is really going to be great. There were about 55 parking spots that
were free last Sunday morning and as mentioned in the last e-mail there is a
bathroom:-)
NOTE 2: The best parking is on the East side of the park. Because of that
you will want to turn right on Canyon Ave (at the fork in the road across
from the Western shop with the cowboy and horse on the top) and drive into
the back side of the park by the public restrooms.

Sorry for the typo last week in V4 TH #1 LR #19. While I am sure that was
not the first or last to get through I felt extra bad for misspelling
Carol’s name. Coral S should have been Carol S.

WWW post:
4/2/2000 Another big group of 42 people made the run today. Well 37 made the
run on time and 5 came an hour late after they forgot to set their watch
ahead because of the switch to daylight savings time. Waldo was in great
shape today and the weather was perfect. While we waited on some to return
from the big loop Kees G and Matt C entertained the rest with stupid human
tricks — Team Gumby indeed. Bob Mi took a spill today and showed us just how
much dirt one person can pick up off of the ground without a broom. Today
was our last Sunday parking at the COG. From here on out we will meet at 8
a.m. at Soda Springs Park and it is asked for safety reasons that dogs not
be brought to the runs anymore.

Let the fast stuff begin!!!

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...
