The mailing list topped 200 and stayed there for the first time ever this
week:-) Thank you all for the feedback on the new meeting spot at Soda
Springs Park. I too think it is a lot better than the parking mess we had up
on Spring Street in years past! Also I think the forced warm-up really
helped some last Thursday. The Hydro Street hills are a total blast this
year. It is fun to see 30-40 people in such a small area all hurting and
pushing and getting better. If I have not said it in a while thanks to all
of you for coming out! The more there are the more at each level and the
more we all get better! Also, Glen A checked with the powers that be and
they claim that they will leave the bathroom open until 6 pm instead of 3 pm
during the week for now on.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 20, 5:30 p.m. meet at Soda Springs Park.
Warm-up to Hydro Street. Tempo run up the Barr Trail for 30 minute or to No
Name Creek whichever comes first. Easy run back down and then 4-6 Hydro
Street hill repeats. Cool down back to park.

Sunday, April 23, 8 a.m. meet at Soda Springs Park.
Up to Barr Camp then on the way down go up and back down Longs Ranch Road
and back via the Ute Indian Trail. 2.5-3.5 hours.

Phew, glad you got this one out before tonight’s run. I wanted to let you
know that I have a night class tonight and next week (bummer) but
*faithfully* went out and did today’s run (even the hydros!) yesterday
afternoon. I missed the competitive push I get from running with the group
but, hey, at least I’m staying with the plan!

Welcome back to Tom K and Laura L. I don’t recall seeing any birdseed falling
out of their hair nor remnants stuck to their clothing. I am sure “the fam”
loved Laura L. Tom K is the normal one in his family, I wonder??? The
“official Incline Club garment clearing house,” is this normal, hum??? I
think this glove fetish is cause for action. We should all join together to
become the “official Tom K support group.” We need to break down his denial
of this offensive behavior and only then can he expect Tom K to deal with his
addiction. His obvious cognitive distortions involving cows should be
recognized as Tom K “redflags.” His thinking errors seem to extend to blaming
his deviance on a poor unsuspecting Animal offender supervising probation
officer. Does anyone know what that is about??? Tom K, the first step is to
admit you have a problem. Repeat out loud and in front of a mirror “hi, my
name is Tom K and I am suffering from glove deviance addiction.”

Thank you very much to Neal and Teresa. The food was great. Thank you to
everyone for welcoming RonD, my friend from Hawaii. He enjoyed the run and
the food and the people. Thanx again!!

(Matt C adds: I can’t speak for anybody else but my Monday run went great!
I have to believe it was all that great food we had after the Sunday long run
last weekend. For the second year in a row Neal and Teresa T made pancakes from
the back of their VW van and it was awesome. Kees G brought some great
brownies and lots of other people brought some great food and drink as well.
There is talk of doing this more often:-))

This Sunday is Easter and I won’t be able to make the usual club run because
of family commitments. I don’t know if you want to include this in the club
letter or not, but any other runners that are having conflicts with the
Sunday run can join me on Saturday morning for a long run. I’ll take off
from Soda Springs park at 8am. I was ecstatic, and relieved, that there was
minimal snow left on Long’s Ranch Road. Maybe we’ve turned the corner on the
weather!

(I second Sid’s comments on the snow. It was almost (the big almost) fun
going up Longs Ranch Road with some traction:-)

(OK this is a week old but I just wanted everyone to see how close Tony
nailed it! It was indeed perfect for PANCAKES!)

Here is the updated forecast I promised you.

Saturday will be cloudy & cool with rain showers and isolated
afternoon thunderstorms. High Temp: 52 F Low Temp: 42 F
The freezing level down around 8000 ft so that means some fresh snow on
Long’s Ranch Rd. Should only be a few inches though.

Sunday will be great: Party cloudy skies with AM low temp of 30 F and a
high temp mid afternoon of 63 F. It should be in the low to mid 50’s by the
time we get back for PANCAKES!

Please add me to your Incline Club list. I’ve really enjoyed my first two
Thursdays (in a sick sort of way), so I want to be kept informed of future
events.

I moved to Manitou last August and started walking (no,not running) up the
incline to acclimate to the altitude here. I came here from the Outer Banks
of NC which is 0 feet in elevation, so it was a little bit of a change! When
I was coming down today I met a woman carrying a fence rail up Barr trail to
do repairs (Gail Allen) and we visited for a little while. She gave me your
name and website to check out when I told her how attached I was to the
incline... What a great site!!! Please do add me to your mailing list. Thank
you!!!

4/16/2000 38 people met at Soda Springs Park to do a Sunday long run
consisting of Ute Indian Trail, Waldo Canyon, Longs Ranch Road and back down
the Barr Trail. But the real news was the 2nd annual post run feedbag put on
by Neal and Teresa T from the back of their VW van. Those that left early or
did not come missed some good food and great fun! Like the last several club
workouts, stupid human tricks were the order of the day. Teresa showed us
that she can stand on her head and drink from a cup!

4/13/2000 37 people got reminded what pain was about today. 30 minutes of 1
minute hard, 1 minute easy, served as the reminder. The first 5 hard minutes
never seem too bad but those next five start to hurt. The last 5 can get
down right ugly. Hydro street looked like an ant hill as the group did 4-6
repeats up it. Good hard day and great group turnout!

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...
