Sent: Wednesday, May 17, 2000 2:59 PM Subject: Incline Club V4 TH #7 LR #26 55 runners at a long run??? Not in my wildest dreams but it happened this last Sunday!!! For whatever reason (rumor has it that Channelpoint is in acquisition mode and they want running clubs) we are growing very fast this year and so I would like to put in a not so subtle reminder to mind our manners. While warming up on Ruxton Ave on Thursdays and Sundays please try to stay out of the way of cars as much as possible. A big thanks to those that are using the sidewalk! Although it certainly looks like it, we dont really own the street;-) #### Thursday, May 18, 5:30 p.m. meet at Soda Springs Park. Warm-up to Hydro Street. Tempo run up the Barr Trail for 30 minutes or to No Name Creek whichever comes first. Easy run back down and then 4-6 Hydro Street hill repeats. Cool down back to park. (The goal is to get farther than last time using the SAME effort!!!) Sunday, May 21, 8 a.m. meet at Soda Springs Park. To Bottomless Pit sign (or higher goal is the A-frame) and back. 2.5-3.5 hours. (We will have a little group talk for about 5 -10 minutes before the run on how to better translate this run into a great peak race. No matter if you are doing the new Barr Trail Mountain Race, the Ascent, the Marathon, several or all...) #### Results: Lake McMurtry Trail Runs, April 22, 2000 Stillwater, Oklahoma 25 km Kees G, 2nd overall, 1:52.54, broke previous course record. This was only the 4th or 5th race Kees has run looks like he knows what he is doing! :-) 50 km Neal T, 6th overall, 4:59.45 Teresa T, 9th overall, 5:04.46, 1st woman and 1st masters, broke previous course record. ---- Last week I missed Neal O who was listed as the winner of the Grand Prix 5K. Also the same day I got a note from Steve B, who was listed as 3rd in the 5K saying he also won the 5K. Seems there was some confusion about the race start times. The 5K was supposed to start 10 minutes after the 5 mile race according to the entry form but both races ended up starting together so some people were left behind when the 5K took off and thus we have two winners from the club in the same race! #### Thursday, be on the look out for a brown and white dog last seen Sunday. I am told it ran away from its owner while they were hiking on the Barr Trail. The dogs name is Murphy. #### There is a moonlight hike to Barr Camp Friday at 5:00 PM leaving from the Barr Trail Trailhead parking lot. For more information go here: http://www.pcisys.net/~rld/hike/ #### Keith G writes: How about adding a theme to the next time we do the Incline as a Thursday workout. For example: It may be Hawaiian Shirt day, or Bermuda Shorts day. Just imagine 50 people racing up the Incline wearing colorful Hawaiian shirts. Just a thought. Also, it would be nice to have a way of identifying who this person who won the last race up the Incline. Possibly have them wear a pokodot shirt (top climbers jersey). This way many of us will try even harder if we are near this person at the top. Another option is to have a trophy for the first to the top of the Incline. Whoever wins has to carry it up the next time and it gets presented to whoever is first. (OK In two weeks we will have our first theme day Incline run. Please send in your ideals!!! I have a traveling trophy that Ben C the winner last time can present to the winner next time. Not sure yet if the winner should have to carry it...) #### Sid R pointed out that a few of us are no longer doing Waldo in the clockwise direction. This is true. The only reason we do that in the Winter is because the ice is so bad on the creek side that it would be risky to come down that way. In the summer time anything goes have fun and mix it up! Those of us that switched directions all feel it makes it seem like a totally new run after a bunch of clockwise efforts. #### Adam Feerst from the Denver area who has run with the club a couple of times has started Thursday night trail runs up in that neck of the woods. He also puts out an e-mail reminder which has some good trail running info in it sign up for the list using his e-mail address below. Adam writes: Runners of all abilities are encouraged to join us for some great workouts on some great trails. We will run for about an hour, although you can go as long or short as you want. Stick around for dinner after the runs. And, if there is interest, we will arrange longer weekend runs and car pools to summer trail races. No membership. No dues. No t-shirts. Just show up at 6pm, ready to run, at the following locations. Dogs, off-road baby joggers and mtn. bikes are welcome. 5/11 Mt. Falcon A monthly time trial. 5/18 Apex Park 5/25 Deer Creek Park 6/1 Green Mtn 6/8 Mt. Falcon monthly time trial. 6/15 Red Rocks 6/22 Deer Creek Park For more information or directions, call Adam Feerst at 303-282-3921, or e-mail: (e-mail address removed for www posting) #### www posts: 5/11/2000 An Incline Record of 55 people come out to run on Mothers Day. This was a super day for a trip around Waldo Canyon or up Longs Ranch Road. Dave S kept the club blood bank in business with a nasty looking knee shot that somehow not only painted his socks but got his shirt as well. This time we even had a photographer on the scene to record the mess on film. Several people looked like they were returning from a war if you dont bring water on these runs you will pay! Finally many clubbers have discovered that Fountain Creek is the perfect place to hang out after a run to soak their sore spots. 5/11/2000 Another 42, this time for a Thursday run, headed up the Barr Trail. The protocol for today was 30 minutes of 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy. The temperature was cooler than the last week or so but the trail was still dry despite the rain earlier in the week. Once again Hydro Street Hill repeats finished the day. 14 people have made all 6 Thursday runs!!! #### Incline Club Page: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline.htm Incline Club FAQ: http://www.skyrunner.com/incline_faq.htm #### Go out hard, when it hurts speed up...
