Subject: Incline Club V5 off season #1
Well just when you thought it was safe to check your e-mail!

Would you e-mail our club mates and remind them that there will be low key
runs for off season training on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. Meet at Soda Springs
Park. This Sunday we will run out on Ute Trail about an hour, for a total
of less than two hours RT.

Freds low key runs sound awesome! This also brings up the question of just
what is the IC off season. Well it SHOULD mean different things to different
people. If the PPA/M was your primary goal it could be time to take a much
needed break. After all we were in labor for 9 months for that baby. However
there are some that have fall races (or the fall series) planned as well.
Others are even shooting for fall marathons. What is important as far as the
off season goes is that you do what is needed to get your body 100%
recovered by the last Sunday in November when the IC workouts start back up
for the 2002 season. Those that have had nags or even injuries NOW is the
time to get them rested and healed! Those that are suffering from mental
burnout NOW is the time to perhaps go on a bike ride or even do nothing.
Those doing fall races of course need to keep training but after your race
you too should consider some down time. Even here however down means
different things to different people. To Fred and others easy runs on
Sundays are just the ticket after a season of high intensity stuff. I tend
to agree. Unless you are recovering from an injury or total burnout it is
far better to keep at it with easy runs so that you are not starting from
scratch come November! However I do not recommend trying to train hard right
through the off season for anybody!!! You may start the season way ahead of
the game but somewhere around May your wheels might fall off...

ICers wanted Monday the 3rd:
Doug L, Kees G, Larry M, Yvonne C and Matt C are going to be doing the 2
mile aid station for the American Discovery Trail Marathon on Monday morning
the 3rd from 6:30 to about 7:30. Please consider joining us so that while
some of us hand out water the rest of us can cheer on the runners. They are
expecting over 300 sign-ups so it should be a lot of fun. Since the station
is early we will have us time to watch the finish:-) The race starts in
Palmer Lake at the trailhead. The easiest way to get to the 2 mile mark is
from the road into Palmer Lake that crosses the trail. If you dont know
where that is of course you can just go to Palmer Lake and do a 2 mile jog
to the station. Please stop by if you have an hour and wear your club shirt
if you have one.

Thanks to everyone who sent in PPA/M and Leadville reports! I for one
learned a lot of stuff and based on the feedback I am getting so did a lot
of other people! The reports will help me tweak the ICs training schedule
next year to address some of the things that keep popping up. Again if you
have not sent in a report please copy the format below and send one in.
Also and again, if you did not get any of the other mails with the 39 other PPA/M and Leadville reports just let me know!

LEADVILLE STUFF:
####
Kim P and Rick K report:
Just a quick note about our (Kim K & Rick P) Leadville race. We ran the
race together even after many warnings about what could happen when a
husband and wife race together. And we did so without incident (i.e.
divorce).
The race itself did not fare so well. We ran through May Queen (13.5 miles), the Fish Hatchery (23.5 miles), Half Moon (30.5 miles), and Twin Lakes (39.5 miles) without too much difficulty. However, after we left Twin Lakes to go over Hope Pass, we took turns getting sick. By the time we got to the top we had already taken an hour longer than we had scheduled. We missed the cutoff at Winfield and were DNFd.
We werent too disappointed about the run. It was our first attempt at Leadville. We have been doing Ironman races since 1991 so the change to the trails have been a great change. Kims signed up for another Ironman next year (Utah) but we probably stay on the trails for our running. We will probably give Leadville another try as well.

Any Other Stuff: I need to hook up with you to get my 30+ trophy.
(Matt C adds: Of the 44 ICers who went over 30 workouts for the season 80% of them were at the party to get their award:-) If you are one of the 9 who did not come please let me know when you want to get yours. Otherwise they get reused for next year!)
