Hi there ICers!!!
And just what happened to this week? Dont know if it is the holidays or what but time is just flying. At any rate, today is definitely a day for celebration because from here on out the days start getting longer again:-)
This weeks big thank you goes to Connilee Walter for taking the time to figure out a bug in the about me pages. Turns out that if you entered too many characters in your quote you would get a database error. It has been fixed and I apologize if the bug bit you.
In running related news I guess we should have some this Sunday marks the last solo run of Waldo. Soon we will be doing the Waldo/LRR combo! Also in January we will be doing the Section 16 loop so if anyone has done it lately and can send me a conditions report that would be great!

The Rescue Run on New Years Day is just around the corner. Please consider signing up for this race. Both a 5K and a 10K are offered. The race is held at Palmer Park and the courses are hilly and challenging. Start time is 10:00 AM so you can still stay out late and make the race without prying yourself out of bed.
Proceeds from this race go to the El Paso County Search And Rescue (EPCSAR). These are the people who will come out and rescue us if we have an Elizabethan experience during our Sunday long runs. The EPCSAR supports the running community by providing on-course support for many events in the region including: Rescue Run, PPRR Winter Series, Barr Trail Mountain Race, Pikes Peak Ascent, Pikes Peak Marathon, and American Discovery Trail Marathon. Now its time for us to show our appreciation for their support of the running community.
The registration fee is $17. You can register at any of the local running stores, on-line at active.com, mail-in (get form from the PPRR website), or on race day ($20 on race day). The shirt is a heather-gray long-sleeve mock turtleneck. I can bring one to the Sunday long run for you to look at. There are also many merchant donations that are given out as random drawings.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and enjoy your training.

ABOUT ME SCAVENGER HUNT:
###############################################
There are now close to 70 about me pages linked to off of the Sunday * board. Since last Thursday there have been 4,511 views of about me pages with 18 people (mostly the ones who did their pages first) already getting 100 or more views of their pages! Therefore I thought it would be fun to start an about me scavenger hunt. The first person to answer these 3 questions wins a T-shirt. (Sorry, you must come to the next club run to get the shirt.)

NON R REPORTS: (off season)
###############################################
Margie Stauffer reports:
Race = Grand Canyon marathon
Location = Grand Canyon
Date = Oct. 20th 2002
Distance = 26.2 miles
Goal = Cross finish line healthy/soak up the beauty
Results = Healthy finish a fun come back run!
Website = http://www.grandcanyonmarathon.com
General = This was the inaugural Grand Canyon marathon. It was very well organized. It was run on the western rim on the Hualapai Indian reservation. Mostly paved, 6 or 7 miles dirt and gently rolling the entire distance. Very good turnout of about 400 for the full marathon and 350 for the half. Billy Mills gave a talk and was the starter.
Right = I was just so thrilled to go the distance after a real set back year due to a bad fall on ice IN MY DRIVEWAY. Nothing heroic like spilling on the trail. I cautiously ran/walked due to lingering crummy lower back injury. Just wanted to finish and I DID!!!!! Never a real question in my mind. I just didnt want to get swept off the trail.
Wrong = Not much I was the Queen of Caution. (Probably too cautious.)
Other Stuff = Took 1st place in age group. No problem. I was the first of ONE in my division. If I dropped down an age group to the kids :-) in the 60-64 age group, of which there were 8, I won that one too. DONT MAKE ME TELL MY TIME!!!!!
Logistically the run created a problem. Closest accommodations were about 78 miles away in Kingman, Az. or Las Vegas, Nev., which is even farther. They had buses pick us up at those points and everyone had at least a two hour bus ride, much of it on bumpy road.

12/15/02 Another big group (83) headed out for a long run today. It was our 2nd run on Longs Ranch Road and it was still just as steep. Weather was great just a little windy near the top but for the middle of December we should not complain. Or should we? It was awful dry and dusty coming down the Barr Trail and that does not bode well for next summer:-( Updating the * board was pretty easy today since the top 57 on the board came to the run. We now have over 50 about me stories accessible off of that page.
