Subject: Incline Club V7 LR #10
Hi ICers,
I have been looking over the comments left in the about me pages as far as ways to improve the club site. Quite a few people have asked for a links page on the website. Well, to be fair, some have been asking for it since the site was put up. At any rate, that has been implemented feel free to send in the links you had in mind.
Also quite a few said it was not obvious that that they should be going to the newsletter page to change their about me pages (there are 117 of them now:-) or update their e-mail addresses. Therefore to make things a little more logical a membership page has been created where you can access your accounts.
Thanks again for coming out there were 109 of us at the last Sunday run! Williams Canyon trail was in the best condition I have ever seen it thanks to some heavy use – an awesome trail for sure!

Terry Buehl reports:
Race = San Diego Marathon
Location = Carlsbad, CA
Date = 19 Jan 03
Distance = 26.2 miles
Goal = 3:15:00
Results = 3:28:37
General = The race started out in a thick pea-soup fog which gradually burned off. The support along the way was excellent, water and Ultima at every mile with Cliff Gells being handed out at a least six different locations. Bands were playing at several locations. Also, the Expo was quite good for a medium sized race.
Right = Well, at least my shoes didnt come undone!
- Signed up to run with the 3:15 pace group.
- I also ran a marathon PR, although not quite the time that I had hoped for.
- Considering I was slightly injured going into the race, I guess I demonstrated a high pain tolerance.
Wrong = Was injured going into the race!
- Decided I could go way faster than the 3:15 pace group! (And I did that is until mile 19)
- Decision to eat oatmeal for breakfast before the race was definitely a bad idea!
Other Stuff = They could sure use a few more Porta-Johns along the route! The first one I hit was pad-locked shut!

Race = Trek to 10 mile
Location = Breckenridge
Date = 19JAN03
Distance = 10k
Goal = smile lots, finish strong in an hour
Results = finished smiling in 1:01 (kinda slow)
Website = http://www.greatadventuresports.com
General = 2nd year of doing the trek to 10mile station. This year, the route was quite a bit longer (people complained last year) and ran backwards from the previous course. It started at the bottom of peak 9 by the Maggie, went up by the burro trail, and then cut off into singletrack. Two loops around in the woods, then back to a ski run for a tough uphill finish. The course was a mix of packed snow and powder.
Right = Didnt start too hard. As this was only my second snowshoe race, tried to start smart and kind of run it as a tempo run. Only fell down 3 or 4 times this year :) yeah ! Finished the uphill really, really good. Passed a few on the last hill (Thanks, Matt !). All in all, a great way to spend the morning. Learned from the past, wore less clothes than I thought I needed, and got some little gaitors to keep the snow out of my shoes.
Wrong = Didnt run hard enough. I thought I finished 5 minutes faster than I did (who among us doesnt ? :). Since I was able to keep up a conversation with the guy in front of me the whole two laps, I probably should have kept my mouth shut and run faster. Oh well. Running well in snowshoes requires practice it would seem, especially going downhill with any type of speed. I need practice !
Other Stuff = It was warm, sunny, and the snow was soft. Met some really nice people (Mo, Hal, Dave, a girl named Rocket, and two other girls desperately seeking the old bloody mary). What else could you ask for in a Colorado morning ? AND, everyone got a nalgene bottle with a cool yellow lid. Might be one of the coolest race thingys ever, except for the ski hat I got once (same company, different race).

Race = Frozen Ass
Location = Littleton, CO
Date = 12 Jan 03
Distance = 20 miles
Goal = 4 hours
Results = 4:20
Website = http://www.coachweber.com
General = Not bad, although most of these runs are on parts of, if not all, the same tracks. Not frozen at all, it was 50 that day. The water crossings were cold but warmed up quick afterwards.
Right = learning from IC runs how not to overdress at the start
Wrong = Missing a lot of long training runs

1/19/03 With temperatures reaching into the high 60s the club attendance record was smashed today when 109 came out! This is the first time we have gone over 100:-) Most of us headed up Rampart Range Road and connected into Williams Canyon. From there we either headed back to the park or ran up to Waldo and came back via UPT. The warm weather also meant that quite a few hung out at the park after the run. As nice as it was however we need some snow!
