Subject: Incline Club V7 TH #3 LR #23 VANFEED!!!
Hi there ICers,
This Sunday the 27th after the long run will be the 5th annual Neal and Teresa Taylor Vanfeed!!! Jeanne Mills, Johns better half, will once again be working the second stove. There is no need to bring anything but if you want to bring some munchies or drinks to share that would be great! In addition, you might want to bring a lawn chair to sit in. Family and guests are welcome! First pancakes come off the burner at about 9am so run hard and pig out:-) PS Dont forget to practice up on your stupid human tricks! PPS It does not matter if this is your first run with us or not come on out...
Several have asked me why the long runs are so short now. Actually the Barr Camp and back run is not so short but it is for sure a lot easier than the Waldo/LRR combo. At any rate, I believe it is important to back off the distance of the long runs just a little for a while as we adapt to the addition of the Thursday hard runs. Then, as the snow melts, we can progress further up the trail and get in some really long ones again. Remember it is no good showing up on race day hurt and with the addition of the Thursday club run it is a time to be careful. On the other hand, if you have already been doing hard stuff during the week or are not doing hard stuff during the week please feel free to go longer on Sunday. However for that second group be warned that just running long may get you far but it will not get you far fast!

Could you tell everybody about the Elbert Reflections 5 and 10K starting at 9am on Saturday the 26th? I know Kees would like to know about it so he could have a chance to win unless some fast woman shows up.

The new starting time of 5:45 pm at Hydro Street is very much appreciated by the back of the pack! Thanks so much.
(Matt C adds: I have heard from several that this is working out much better for runners of all abilities. It is now much easier to show up at the correct time warmed-up and ready to go which is important for having a good workout. We will probably keep this format even when we move the meeting spot back to Soda Springs Park. That is if we move back because I am also hearing that many like the current park so I am not sure if we will move back or not.)

I saw an ad in Rocky Mountain about some 50 mi races and an adventure race in Manitou. Hadnt heard anything about them, so I didnt know if others had either.
Lisa and Todd Walton moved here a while ago (from the south, but at least they have seen the light :) and started a little bike shop/race organization. Its below their house up from the post office.
Lisa said her husband had run with us on some Sundays, but I havent met him, maybe you have.
Kinda cool to have this stuff available right out our back door. Even though they do advertise paddling for the pikes peak race ! Ha ! Going to paddle across whats left of our water supply !! ?? :) Maybe we just get to run with paddles instead. Or cross the mighty Rampart Reservoir.

4/24/03 Thur: 50 made it for 30 minutes of 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy. The recent rains have left the trail in great shape and there was plenty of traction. Many reported getting quite a bit further than 2 weeks ago which is of course just what we want. The 4 Hydro street hill repeats felt better today as well.
4/20/03 Sun: 67 came out for an Easter run up the Barr Trail. A little fresh snow actually made the trail more runnable above No Name Creek than last week. It was reported that Kees hid 7 eggs on the trail but we think that was just a joke because no one found any eggs. 2 ICers riding bikes as supplements to their running crashed today. One bloodied his knee really good and the other got a 3rd degree concussion and ended up in the hospital. As the days get warmer remember to be careful on those first couple of bike rides!
4/17/03 Thur: 48 came out for a 30 minute tempo run up the Barr Trail from Hydro Street. If all went well we got a little farther than the 1 on, 1 off workout from last week which is the way it should be. Trail conditions on this section of the Barr Trail are awesome. 4 Hydro Street hill repeats finished the hard part of the day.
