Hi ICers,
A little time check from the PPA/M/D race start to Ruxton Ave or Hydro Street tomorrow and then there is nothing left to do but do it! Its been a great season and I am amazed at the number of *s that got posted this year. Four ICers still have perfect Sunday streaks and six still have perfect Thursday streaks. Please check the boards to make sure you are up to date.
If you have not picked up your IC shirt please try to drop by the park tomorrow and get yours. Otherwise, you are welcome to arrange a time to drop by my house. Yvonne will also have the shirts at the PPA/M/D pre-race expos.
Speaking of shirts, congrats to Stephen Mitchell for being the first to correctly ID the runner in the Denver Post photo essay wearing an IC shirt as Gordon Barnett. Stephen wins an IC shirt - The shirt that says it all!

I got home yesterday (Wednesday) after a 29 hour drive from Manitou
Springs. I must admit that I am going through slight depression because
Judy and I really enjoy being in Colorado. This afternoon (Thursday) I
did a 30 minute tempo run up the Appalachian Trail (Rocky Row Mountain
approximately 3000 feet elevation gain) and then did ten hill repeats on a
hill similar to hydro street. I hurt a lot, but my mind was with my
fellow ICers in Colorado. I will be emailing you again with a picture of
my new truck tag with ICER on it! Thanks so much for mailing my two
remaining ICer shirts and I look forward to running a winter run with the
club in December. Judy and I are coming back to Manitou for the Cog
Christmas Party, so we will all have to get together again then. Talk
with you again soon!

I got over here to run Nolans 14, and find out it was cancelled. Seems the local ranger found out and ruled that its against forest service regs to run a race in the Wilderness. Its okay to take a gun and shoot fauna, but...
I am going to run it on my own with Laila to support. There is no law against climbing 14ers.

R REPORTS:
###############################################
Rick Pearcy & Kim Kitchen report (sorta):
Race = Leadville Trail 100 10K
Location = Leadville, CO.
Date = 8/10/03
Distance = 10K
Results = finished
Website = http://www.leadvilletrail100.com
General = This race is an out and back course (the first three miles and last three miles of the Leadville Trail 100 course). We used the race to simulate and time-check the course for the 100 mile run this week.

Lars Duening reports:
Race = XTerra Central Championship
Location = Keystone, CO
Date = 7/20/03
Distance = 1k swim, 31k bike, 10k run
Goal = 3:00-3:30
Results = 3:53:10
General = The dominating part of the race is the biking, which starts at 9000ft and climbs 2000ft to the summit of Keystone mountain and back down over mostly single-track. The descent is fast, has one very technical section, and is hard on the material: I had two flats which totally ruined my time. The swim in the local pond is primarily cold and crowded, and the run is a pleasant out-and-back over rolling trails and some roads. My favorite race.
Right = Ate well and stayed hydrated using a diluted sports drink instead of plain water in my camelback paid off. I also got the pacing right and did not wear myself out over the first minutes of each section.
Wrong = I had slacked off in my training (partly because of an injury, partly because of boredom) which really hurt my run time. I could have saved time on the bike by bringing a second spare tube and organizing my tools better.
Other = Friends came along to cheer us on (hi Sean!) which was a great motivation. On the last mile of the run supporters had brought out a hose and sprayed the runners down with water that felt soooo nice!

8/10/03 Sun: At least 60 ICers got a surprise on Pikes Peak today. The road was shut down at the 18 mile mark due to yesterdays snow. Most of us did not even blink and just ran up the last mile of the Crags trail to the summit and headed on over to the Barr Trail. However some waited out the 2.5 hour delay in their car. Others started to wait out the delay but gave up and went home or ended up doing the Crags trail after all. Winter in August welcome to Pikes Peak. The Barr Trail was fine and after a short workout quite a few of us used rakes and picks to try and make it even better. Ready or not it is PPA/M/D time!!!
8/7/03 Thur: 51 ICers came out for the last full Thursday workout of the season. We ended with a 30 minute tempo run up the Barr Trail. We did cut the Hydro Street hills in half however and it was a joy to go home after just 5:-) In other news, we started passing out IC shirts today!!!
