Hi there ICers,
You can get rid of your X-mas tree and help the Barr Trail at the same time. Between now and January 11, you can drop your X-mas tree off at the Barr Trail trailhead. The trees get used to bock social trails formed by people who cut switch-backs. PLEASE remove all the tinsel if it is on your tree.
Hope you had some great holidays! See you Sunday for the first club long run of 2004 a new loop for some of you:-)

Can you let ICers know that I have a washing machine available for free. Its in my garage, so its readily accessible for transport. I no longer have a truck, so hopefully either the receiver of the goods has a truck or has access to one. Also, I have a wood dining table with extension and six wooden chairs available for free.
Terms: haul them away.

I had to cut the run short Sunday because of some knee problems I am having. Knowing full well I need new orthotics but dont know whos the absolute best here in town (orthopedic/podiatrist) to get them through. I dont want to waste a lot of time and money as I have through past experience. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thank you!

I related to your comment about what an awesome place we find ourselves living in.
Today, with a Colorado-Springs-type-blue sky and a 50 degree temperature, I took a walk. It was a special walk, not just because I havent been doing much running or walking in the last several months, (osteoarthritis in my right hip led to a hip replacement on November 18), but because I was able to look up and out and enjoy and appreciate, as you say, what an awesome place we live in.
While I dont cater to the thought that God is anymore in the mountains than in the oceans or the prairies or the flatlands, my spirits were definitely buoyed by my 39 minute hike up and over a hill that last year I regularly ran in 10. :-)

Gary Hellenga writes from DEEP Montana:
Got snow? Couldnt do yesterdays run on trails most are buried under several feet of the stuff! The local ski hill, Bridger Bowl, has gotten close to 8 FEET of snow in the past 4 days! Weve been out on sleds, skis, skates, and snowshoes, but have had to do our running where theyve plowed the roads or sidewalks Lynns trying to figure out where she can run for 3+ hours today without having to cover the same roads twice!

R REPORTS:
###############################################
Glen Winkel reports:
Race = Manatee River Run 5 Miler
Location = Snead Island, Palmetto, FL
Date = Dec 27, 2003
Distance = 5 miles
Goal = Finish with a reasonable 7M pace
Results = 36:22 69/300+
Website = http://www.bradentonrunnersclub.com
General = In FL visiting my Mom for Christmas, this run is just 15 miles from her condo. Its a coral pathed loop through the island with an extension to the ocean. Good turnout, 300+ runners, 3rd year. I like the T-shirts, a Manatee in running shoes! Lots of older runners who are very fast!
Right = Got there early and registered and found the porta potties without having to wait on any lines. Had 1 hour to warm-up and stretch. Checked out the start (1/2 mile away) and warmed up on the course.
Wrong = Didnt warm up hard enough, wasnt prepared for the fast start and had to slow down. Ended up slower than estimated pace.
Other Stuff = A good course, but too much pavement for me. I much prefer trails over pavement! Huge spread of food at the end with sandwiches, cold drinks, pastries and pizza!

12/28/2003 Sun: A cold day (20 degrees with a serious wind chill factor) and the xmas holidays combined to make for a smaller group today. 79 headed off for the last solo run of Waldo and the last club long run of 2003. The wind made for some seriously cold faces. Not many hung out after the run today preferring instead to head on home and get warm.
