Incline Club V9: Tapers, *s, bandits and pizza

Hi there ICers,

Long time, no e-mail! Things have been as busy as ever and when that happens the actual running takes precedence over writing about running. However, I have been getting a lot of taper related questions so thought I would put out a general e-mail to say, “THE HAY IS IN THE BARN!!!” Be careful how far or how hard you run from here on out because you can do more harm than good. You will note on the club website that running from the bottom is no longer one of the suggested options. In general, stay up high and get some “rare air” time. Personally, I like to do about 50% of normal 2 weeks out and 25% the week of. However, because tapers are so individualistic I won’t say much more than that. One thing I will say now though is that if you are needing new shoes or socks or running clothes get them now so that you will have plenty of time to break them in before race day!!!

*s, Rs, and what nots:
I have tried very hard to keep the workout boards up to date. However, with the Sunday groups starting in several different locations (bottom, Elk or top) it is rather difficult to keep up with everyone. Please check over the workout boards (http://www.inclineclub.com) to make sure you have been given credit for your club workouts.

Catch a bandit:
We had a bandit in the Barr Trail Mountain Race. Well, we had several but one had the audacity to wear a bib from another race! If you can help us ID the male runner in the following link it would be awesome: http://www.runpikespeak.com/img/p_unknown.jpg As added incentive we will pay $50 to the first person who helps us nail the punk!

Help the Barr Trail:
Friends of the Peak has put together a workday for this Saturday August 6th. They need to move 48 fence rails to their needed locations on the Ws. The rails are just being moved now - not installed. The last time the Incline Club did this it took about 1 hour to finish the project. This could take a little longer as some need to go as high as the Rock Arch. But with two people per rail it is still rather easy work. If you are willing to give a little time to the trail that we all love to run on please meet at the site of the green chlorine gas building (now just a foundation) at the end of the first switch-back at the top of Ruxton at 7:30am on Saturday. BRING GLOVES!!! Friends of the Peak will provide pizza after the rails are moved. Therefore, please let me know if you can make it so we can plan the amount of pizza to buy:-) I will be there and hope that you can make it too. If you need more info let me know!

Good running in your upcoming race(s), be it the Ascent, Marathon, Double or Leadville or wherever or whatever!!!

Go out hard, when it hurts speed up!

Matt Carpenter
