Howdy ICers,
Hope you all had a great Christmas weekend. Heres the latest with the
Incline Club.

Christmas Weekend Report
It was great to see 48 runners out for our official Saturday run, and 17
more who came out for another official run on Sunday for a weekend total
of 65.

Bring On the Daylight!
Its almost January?! We already have 3 extra minutes of daylight on our
side; by next week at this time well have about 6 extra minutes which is
enough for (some ICers) to run an extra mile! ;)

A Gentle Reminder About Credit for Club Runs
The purpose of the * boards is to give folks the incentive to get out of
bed and running with the club. There are no prizes for being the
slowest/fastest or for going the shortest/longest. For that matter, if you
are injured, tapering, recovering or whatever you dont even have to run;
its your attendance that counts.
In the event something pops up you can start up to around 2 hours early or
late and still get credit for the run so long as you are seen by someone
else doing the club run. Outside of 2 hours your only hope is to run into
an ICer training for an ultra because there is no relaying of this rule.
In other words, if you start 4 hours late you cant get credit by being
seen by someone who started 2 hours late.
There is also some leeway as to what is the club run. For example, in the
winter it is perfectly acceptable to stick to ice-free runs if ice is not
your thing. The key there is to start with the club and then go your own
way. On the other hand, in the summer ICers end up starting from Memorial
Park, Hydro Street, Elk Park and the summit. The key there is that we are
all on the mountain at the same time and in general it is just smaller
groups of ICers at each location.
Bottom line, these are club runs and not solo runs! Therefore, *
requests for early or late runs should be the exception, not the rule. For
runs that begin at Memorial Park, please leave a note on our garbage
can. For runs that do not start at Memorial Park please let Matt know *as
soon as you get home* with info about your run and who you saw to get
credit. Waiting to let him know just creates more work in that quite a few
pages have to be updated on the website. He is also going to start being a
little less tolerant of the 5 weeks ago I didnt get credit type of
e-mails!!!

For those who are running the Rescue Run this Sunday, good luck! If you
run the 10k, dont forget to send in an R Report to get club credit that
day.
Train hard and smart!

Grab Those Snowshoes and Head to Montana
Gary Hellenga writes: Just wanted to give IC members another race option,
though one with a twist: its on snowshoes (and, of course, its in
Montana)! Heres the info:
The Big Sky Wind Drinkers are adding an exciting new race to the calendar
for this Winter the First Annual Gallatin Gallop Snowshoe Race! The Gallop will be held February 18th on the scenic trails of Bohart Ranch,
and will offer 5K and 10K race options. This is Montanas only snowshoe
race sanctioned by the US Snowshoe Association, and will serve as a
National Championships qualifying event, so we expect to have top racers
coming from around the Rocky Mountain region to compete! For complete
details on the Gallatin Gallop, visit the event web site at
http://www.montanamtnrec.com/gallatingallop
or call Gary or Lynn Hellenga
at (406)587-9271.

Williams Canyon and the Shooting Range
David Hatfield writes: Hi, just wanted to let you pass on the following.
Yesterday I drove up to the access point of Williams Canyon to hike with
my kids. There were a lot of people at the gun range, so we drove by to
take a look. Turns out that folks were shooting right into the canyon,
just above the access trail itself. They were shooting at clay pigeons and
trees, mostly with shot guns but a few folks were shooting rifles (which
have a much longer range). Because of the erratic path of the clay
pigeons, folks were shooting all over the place; right, left, up,
down...it dawned on me that the shot would be landing all over the valley,
including the running area. I dont think they are allowed to be firing
all over the valley, but there were no Rangers around. There were kids as
young as 6 or so shooting the shotguns, and a 2 y.o. who was sitting in
his daddys lap watching. Kinda weirded me out. Either way, I dont think
I can will run that trail anymore, and advise the same to others until the
shooting is curtailed or at least investigated.

12/25 Sun: Day two of the IC weekend brought out 17 more ICers bringing the 2-day total to 61 not counting the four who also showed yesterday. (Again, both Saturday and Sunday count for the long run this weekend because Christmas fell on a Sunday this year.) LRR was in good shape and the only ice on the Barr trail was sticky ice which offered plenty of traction. It was also warm enough that we did not even need a coat! A great way to start out Christmas... Now we can go home, open presents and eat and eat and eat:-)
12/24 Sat: The first official Saturday IC long run drew 48 runners for part one of a two part IC weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday count for the long run this weekend because Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. The course for the weekend is Longs Ranch Road.
