R REPORTS:
***********************************************
Screamin Snowman 10k Snowshoe
Jason Jungbauer reports:
Location: Eldora, CO
Date: 2/12/06
Distance: 10k
Goal: sub 1hr 14min (top 10 age group, top 20 overall)
Results: 1:08:24
Website: http://www.racingunderground.com
General Information: 10k snowshoe trail race at the Nordic center at
Eldora Ski Area. Steep hilly course, mostly single-track, some packed some
real loose trail breaking conditions.
Things Done Right: Tapered well, mainly because I have been sick for three
weeks, stayed in Boulder the night before to make it easier to make it to
the race on time. Paced myself well up the first hills, probably too well,
since there was no mile markers and i had never done the course before i
could have gone harder earlier and shaved another 3-5 minutes off my time.
Things Done Wrong: Should have gone harder earlier, overestimated my
finish time, I based it on last years finishers and times were much
slower last year, due to worse weather conditions. Still fighting a cold,
should have carried a water bottle, no aid stations and my throat could
have used a drink or two while breathing the cold dry air.
Other Stuff: Great course, well marked, well supported at the start,
finish.

Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail Run
Anita Bower Reports:
Location : Huntsville, TX
Date: Feb 4-5th, 2006
Distance: 100+ miles
Goal: 24 hours
Results: 24:40:??
Website: http://www.tejastrails.com
General Information: Rocky Raccoon is a relatively flat course consisting
of 5 loops. There are lots of roots. My goal was to break 24 hours, but I
got lost for about 4 miles, so that didnt happen.
Things Done Right Went out faster than normal, and took a flashlight. It
didnt get light for almost an hour. Kept everything simple. Wore tights
throughout the race, even though it got up to 70 degrees or so, it got
really cold at night and into the wee hours of the morning. A lot of
people wasted precious time changing clothes.
Things Done Wrong: Had an inexperienced pacer, who I found myself worrying
about. I found him to be a distraction more than a help, so next 100 miler
I run I a not having a pacer.
Other Stuff: Did I mention lots of roots? Otherwise it is well organized
and planned, and a good first time 100 miler.

2/12/2006 Sun: A great day for running greeted 64 ICers. Todays run was
up to Barr Camp and back. There was not too much snow below No Name Creek.
Beyond that, of course, there was nothing but snow but it was pretty good
for running and it had covered all the ice with the exception of the ice
flow above Lightning Point and at Barr Camp itself. The snow made for a
more gentle run down as well.
