Good morning, Incline Club!

Thursday Workouts
Last Thursday’s workout turned up 53 ICers with a need for speed on the
trail. For this week’s run, meet at Hydro Street at 5:45 Thursday for a
30 minute tempo run up Barr Trail. Use up your last bits of energy on
Hydro Hill after the run!

***
Sunday Run
This Sunday’s run is from Memorial Park to Barr Camp. Remember to bring
water and food especially as the runs get longer and the weather becomes
warmer. Barr Camp sells drinks, including bottled water. Note that the
cost for drinks is now $1.50 so be sure to bring enough money if you
aren’t bringing your own water!

***
Snow Report!
On a run to A-frame last Saturday, an ICer reported that the trail wasn’t
bad until after the Bottomless Pit turnoff with mostly 1-2” of snow until
11,000’ and then some larger patches to A-frame. With the great weather
this week, conditions should be even better for those who choose to
venture past Barr Camp on Sunday. Enjoy!

Pikes Peak Fun Fact
The average incline of Pike’s Peak is 11%.

“R” REPORTS:
***********************************************

Anita Bower reports:
Race: Umstead 100 mile endurance run
Location: Raleigh NC
Date: April 8 and 9th, 2006
Distance: 100 miles
Goal: under 24 hours
Results: 23 hours 39 minutes 58 seconds
Website: www.ncroadrunners.org

General Information: Going into the race right after a stressful move, I
wasn’t sure how I would do. Stomach problems the week before the race made
eating more than 500-600 calories a day difficult.

Things Done Right: To get enough calories, without the bulk and endless
chewing needed with vegan bars and other expensive energy bars, I decided
to take a chance and eat Little Debbie snack cakes the whole way since I
was unable to eat much prior to the race. I ate 20 total, at 300 calories
a pop. They were very easy to chew, and much better tasting than those
over priced organic vegan healthy barley and
carrot raw crappy tasting bars. A calorie is a calorie. And took in 10
caffeine pills too. Needless to say, I had lots of energy.

Things Done Wrong: Over dressed. But I didn’t want to waste time changing
cloths during the race.

Other Stuff: Lots of cold windy North Carolina rain storms at night helped
keep me awake along with all the Little Debbies and caffeine pills. As far
as I know, 20 Little Debbies eaten during a 100 is a record.

4/9/2006 Sun: Perfect weather brought out 81 runners for a trip up Rampart
Range Road. For the first time in memory there were no guns being shot at
the range. All trails were in great condition and it was just an awesome
day to be out running! On a special note, with the season half over there
are still 14 ICers with perfect Sunday streaks of 20!!!

4/6/2006 Thur: 53 ICers came out for the first Thursday workout of the
2006 season. For the fist time in 10 years of IC runs the pen ran dry and
there was a bit of a delay tracking down a working one for the list. But
once that was taken care of it was business as usual and the 30 minutes of
1 minute hard, 1 minute easy quickly reminded people that it is not all
fun and games. These puppies hurt! Fortunately, because it is early in the
season we only had to go through the motions on the four Hydro Street hill
repeats. They get hard starting next month.
