Howdy, Incline Club!

Easter Sunday Run and Snow Report
63 ICers came out for an Easter Sunday run to Barr Camp. The following
snow report was posted on the IC website: There is NO snow all the way to
the Camp:-) Above the Camp there is just a couple of spots of snow and ice
until the end of the big switch-back after the Bottomless Pit sign. From
there till the A-Frame it is still runnable but there were a couple of
slick spots. However, they were melting while I was there:-)

Actually There WERE Gunshots on RRR Last Week
Bob Mischler writes (in reference to last week’s enewsletter):
I see that in the newsletter there is a note that for the first time in
memory no guns were being shot at the range last Sunday. Let me assure you
that was not the case. I was near the back of the pack at the turn off
RRR. I only went a couple of hundred yards down the trail, when bullets
starting hitting trees very close to me. These were not shotgun pellets,
they were rifle shots. I stayed behind a tree for about five minutes,
waiting for a break. The shooting was in closely spaced spurts, making it
pretty much continuous. Finally I got a break and went back up to the road
and up to the range. There was a ranger there, and I asked him whether
everyone should be shooting at a backdrop of some sort. He said that the
only people who were not shooting at the hillside were the people shooting
shotguns. That would be the people shooting in our direction. I told him
what had happened, and we walked down to where the people were shooting
down the hill. Sure enough a young guy was shooting a small caliber
semi-automatic rifle of some kind down the hill and into the trees. The
ranger corrected the problem. Only the very careless would shoot a rifle
this way. I have sent a letter to Frank Landis at the Forest Service
relating this experience, and asking what can be done to prevent future
occurrences. I’ll let you know if I get a response. ~Bob

Ladies Night at Boulder Running Company this Thursday (Tomorrow!)
Kerry Page writes: Boulder Running Company is hosting a Ladies Night this
Thursday evening. I figured the IC ladies could come after the Thursday
night workout since the “celebration” will last until 9 pm. They are
going to have Brooks bra fit experts, food, giveaways, prizes, and a
fashion show.

Guide Runner Needed for Garden of the Gods 10-Miler
Dave Sorenson writes: Guide Runner Needed For Garden 10 Miler. A visually
impaired runner from Washington DC wants to run the Garden 10 Miler on
June 11th when she is here visiting her parents. She does need a guide
runner to help her. Her pace is about 9.5 — 10 minutes per mile. If
anybody is willing to be her guide runner, please let me know and I’ll
give you her contact information.

Anthropology Study on Runners
Rebekka Hannula writes: Hi All, I’m writing a paper for my Cultural
Anthropology class about Runners If anybody out there would like to answer
these simple questions , I would really appreciate it:-)
1. How often do you train?
2. How many miles a week?
3. and any other information you would like to share?
I won’t mention names, unless you insist on the publicity :-)
Thank you very much! Rebekka Hannula

Are You Drinking Enough (Water)?
Connilee Walter reports: Came across an interesting new-to-me website that
speaks to the many benefits of proper hydration as well as the links
between unintentional dehydration and many common illnesses. For the
hydration-inclined, you can check it out at: www.watercure.com

4/13/2006 Thur: 49 came out for a 30 minute tempo run up the Barr Trail.
This is the annual “truth” in that the trail doesn’t lie and will tell you
where you are compared to previous years. Many reported that things are
well:-)
