Good afternoon ICERS!
Garden of the Gods 10-Miler
Can you smell it in the air? Its springtime and it literally smells
like the Garden out there! What I mean is all the wonderful plants and
trees in bloom, not necessarily the scent of sweat and hot rock, although
those definitely qualify as Garden scents too! Good luck to all the ICers
running this weekend!

Teva 10k Trail Championships
The Incline Clubs Matt Carpenter is in the news this week! Defending his
crown in the Teva 10k Trail Championships, he came in first, but not
really. What?! Read more here:
http://www.denverpost.com/extremes/ci_3897601
and here: http://www.coloradorunnermag.com/news/TevaSpringRunOff_2006.html
(Editors note: I dont often state my personal opinions here, but here
goes nothin... I personally I think Matt got hosed out of $1000 bucks!
Heres why: In poking around the web, I was able to find a press release
here: http://www.coloradorunnermag.com/news/Teva10KTrailChamps_2006.html
that talks about the added money for USATF members; it doesnt state
that a USATF membership is required for the main purse. I wasnt able to
find any information elsewhere nor on the *race website* that discussed
the exact entry and eligibility requirements. In the interest of all us
runners (not *just* Matt), here are my honest questions: How is a runner
supposed to know about the eligibility requirements if they arent stated
publicly? If they are posted somewhere, where are they? Last of all, is it
fair to require a USATF membership for prize money eligibility?
Any comments that yall would like to submit will be posted in next weeks
newsletter. :*)

Its hard at first to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the
other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is really against
the little voice inside that wants you to quit. ~Unknown

R REPORTS:

4th Annual Casper Marathon
Charles Scheibe reports:
Location: Casper, Wyoming
Date: June 4, 2006
Distance: 26.2 miles
Goal: sub 4:30
Results: 4:11:03
Website: http://www.runwyoming.com/
General information: Road race marathon predominantly along the North
Platte River.
Things Done Right: Adequately rested; fueled; conservative, even paced
run; managed heat and conditions well
Things Done Wrong: Maybe underestimated potential; still had plenty left
at the end ... not necessarily bad ... beats pooping out early!
Other Stuff: Small race (less than 150 marathoners); few spectators; well
administered; sufficient aid stations.

6/4/2006 Sun: 64 ICers showed. With race car practice taking place on top
of Pikes Peak it was time for our annual trek up 10,707 Camerons Cone. As
always the trail was steep but the views were awesome! We blew our
previous summit record out of the water by putting 24 ICers on top! ICer
Ryan Morgan put together a slideshow of the trip. Did I mention the views?
6/1/2006 Thur: 51 came out and for most it was another session of 30
minutes of 1 minute hard, 1 minute very easy followed by 6 Hydro Hill
Repeats. Look, there is not a lot more to say other than these hurt and
unlike the 18th we didnt even get a pretty rainbow to look at for our
efforts!
