Good afternoon ICERS!
Well ICers you have been doing an awesome job out at the races lately and
after going through the race reports, I have some trivia for you!
Which ICer saw two moose during his recent race?
Who ran a major local race under an assumed name?
And who amongst us ran and won a recent Colorado marathon?
Guess youll have to read the race reports to find out. :*) Because of
the number of race reports (18 R Reports and 2 non-R Reports) I will
send them in a separate email shortly after this one; be sure to stay
tuned for it.
And just a reminder that your R and Non-R Reports are always welcome!
Remember that only certain races do qualify for the R. To read more,

And Now a Word From Dr. Rocket
Dear Dr. Rocket,
I have a practical question regarding global warming. Being ecologically
minded, I try and either walk, run or bicycle any time I go anywhere
around town. However, this is sometimes inconvenient or impractical, in
particular when traveling distances greater than 100-150 miles. So my
question is this: for those times when I am compelled to use my
automobile, can I offset the detrimental affects that contribute to global
warming if I drive with my air conditioning on and my windows cranked
open? Thank you for your thoughts on this. And by the way, where have you
been?
Good to have you back on the planet.
Your running mate,
Goretex Al
*
Dear Eco Challenged,
Thanks you for your question, and it is good to be back after my 2 year
sabbatical to the tropical Planet Mauiopia. It was a tough gig, but some
rocket scientist had to do it.
I can certainly see where walking, running or biking might not always be
practical around your neighborhood. Space is one of the few places where
one can conceivably walk, run or bike for billions of miles to the
supermarket in the nearest galaxy and not have to worry about the ice
cream melting before you get back home.
I applaud your commitment to the health of our home planet. I am reminded
of one of my favorite bumper stickers: Please keep Earth clean. This
isnt Uranus. However, driving with your air conditioning cranked up and
the windows cranked down is perhaps probably not a good idea. Please
forgive me if this seems a bit cold, but its really stupid. In fact, it
would likely contribute to global warming, substantially in some cases,
depending on the amount of methane you expel out that open window while
tooling down the highway after, for example, dining out on a BIG burrito.
You may just have to bite the preverbal rocket, and hope that a killer
asteroid destroys the earth before we all bake in perpetuity. But if were
not that lucky, you might be re-assured to know that there are some
beneficial effects that would result from global warming. Wouldnt it be
refreshing to tickle your tired toes in the ocean after finishing a hot,
long training run up the Peak?
And if all the ice packs melt, wont there be more ocean for the
endangered whales to cavort in?
Regardless,
Dr. R
Go out hard, when it hurts, crank up the a/c, roll UP the windows and eat
a gallon of Rocket Road ice cream.

6/25/2006 Sun: At least 49 ICers were somewhere on Pikes Peak today. It is hard to tell because the fog was so thick in spots that even if you were 15' behind someone you could not see them. I am told it was freaking awesome.
6/22/2006 Thur: 51 ICers headed up the Barr Trail for a 30 minute tempo run. Things had cooled off nicely by our 5:45pm start time. Hydro Hell repeats rounded out the day.
