Dr. Rocket
This weeks question for Dr. Rocket:
Dr. Rocket Question: Please comment on the cause(s)of the air
temperature during the 2006 BTMR. Some ICers feel it was due to an
un-named team performing the Nearly World Famous Kelecy Fire Dance the
night before. What should have happened was a rain dance.
Dear Kind Fire Inquirer,
We do seem to be getting a lot of burning questions these days. You
gotta watch those Kelecys. Rumor has it that theyve been trained in the
Tongan fire dance by the famed Brother Eafee(pronounced Eafee as in
green eafee vegetable), whose renowned act at the Wailea Marriot Luau is
known to attract pyromaniacs from around the world. The Hawaiian Fire
Goddess Pele has nothing over on the Kelecys. I understand that they
used their fire dancing skills to great effect one very dry year, while
camping in a state forest outside of Crested Butte prior to running the
Grin and Bear It attempting to douse a primus stove gone bad after an
ill-fated attempt to brew coffee over an open flame. Wernher von Braun,
father of the modern space age
and innovator of the Saturn V 3-stage coffee maker, would have been proud.
However, after talking with Tom and Laura, I must inform you that your
speculation is mis-appropriated. What you have speculated to be a fire
dance was in fact a futile attempt to kill ants on the porch of Barr Camp.
And, in any case, we all know that recent changes in the State of Colorado
water policies now prohibits rain from falling over Barr Camp unless
deposited from bottled water available for purchase at $1.50 per bottle
(pack out your empties, please).
The resounding success of the BTMR not withstanding, Sunday, July 16 was
just another bad air day on the Peak. The BTMR board does not yet have a
committee member responsible for the temperature on race day, but they do
recommend you address all future precipitation inquiries to Hina Kuluua -
Hawaiian goddess of rain and sister of Kahlua goddess of the nasty
coffee hangover.
Your churning urn of burning space junk,
Dr. Rocket
Go out hard, if you cant take the heat, run naked above 10,000 feet with
a bag of frozen peas tucked under your cap.
