What I do for work:
FF/Paramedic at Oklahoma City Fire Department, EVO @ Eagle Med LLC(flight ambulance) in OKC, OK
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Edmond, OK Colorado Springs, CO
I have lived in Oklahoma all but 1 year of my life, but the year I spent in Colo Spgs was the best year i've had so far! I love to be outside and loved having the challenge of all the mountains around to set out and conquer! I love the individual spirit that people in Colorado have (although sometimes I missed some good ole southern hospitality).
When I started running and what got me started:
2005, my uncle asked me to run a relay with him in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, I trained for a 5k and ended up running an additional 10k for my cousin that didn't show up.
What does running mean to me:
Tranquility, clearing my thoughts, time with God, escaping the city. To me running is a lifestyle and a preventative mearsure I am taking against hereditary heart problems and hypertention. I chose to make a difference in my health and don't plan on slowing down any time soon.
Running accomplishments:
2007 Okc Memoial Marathon, 2009 Okc Memorial half marathon, 2010 Williams RT 66 Marathon, Dirty double dozen 12hr race (Edmond Ok)
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I love the mountains! I like being outside, love the wildlife, and also enjoy the softer ground!
Favorite running trail and why:
Favorite that I ran most of the time was Waldo Canyon. I really like the view and it wasn't as tough on an Oklahoma boys calves as the barr trail or LRR
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Love the Pikes Peak because of the history behind the mountain and that was once my home.
Best running experience:
Running 18mi at garden of the gods during a snowstorm with temperatures below freezing and snowback on the ground! I felt that I had made a huge accomplishment after completing that run.(plus it was my furthest run yet)
Worst running experience:
24mi run during my first year of training. I had no idea about hydration and keeping my blood sugar up.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Nalgene bottle
Running related bathroom stop story:
Had to stop along Rampart Range and a van full of people drove up and were all waving at me(out of towners). It was so bad!
Running pet peeves:
People who don't wave back!
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I race sportbikes
Other hobbies and interests:
fishing, four-wheelers, hiking, wakeboarding.....
Other stuff:
Be smart when you run and stay injury free! Nothing is worse than not being able to run! Take things slow and don't get in a hurry. Your body can take you pushing on it so far, then it pushes back pretty hard.
